500 v 2x300 active?

A quick coat of lime render on the outside should do the trick!

@TimOopNorth what I can add is, for me the Titan T808 are the finest speakers I have heard on any demo, and although new at 25K IMO they out perform more expensive speakers

on the 500 vs 2 x 300 one of the best systems I have heard is being run by @Cymbiosis 552 with 3 x 250DR active - 250 has no issues driving the T808’s

Peter commented in a thread on the Facebook Naim (I think, or possibly LP12 groups) that he preferred 3x250 to a single 500 I think because he loves what active does. They (3x250 + snaxo + supercap) actually work out at a similar price to a 500 so that will be the real comparison to make. Tho in the short term I will be doing well to scrape together a deal for ex dem 808s and run with a single 300dr. Should be adequate

I have heard 808s active x3 300dr at the acoustica show in 2019 but not otherwise and so I will be getting a home dem

Possibly relevant to say that my wife yesterday showed me a picture of the greenhouse she wants - won’t be cheap but I am very keen to buy her one to go some way to balancing the hifi spend :grimacing: so the key to me at the moment is to see if I can swap for things I have. Bother. Just remembered I really need a record cleaning machine as well…

I have roughly the same strategy, I guide her through the alpine routes she wants

I am always at great pains not to deny her something she really wants to have  and as I live in a glass (Naim) house I had better buy her one of her own :joy:

MichaelF - sorry only just seen this, thanks - in an ideal world they would go hard against the wall - we do have a wood burner between where they will go (used about 3 times a year) and the heat doesn’t get near the SL2s but something coming 18 inches further into the room might be an issue. Yes am getting a home dem. Will have to make do with a 300dr to start with

To give you something to go on with my 808s 13” from the wall the front of the plinth measures 30” from the wall so that is how far yours would come out if you used the same back wall distance. I am not sure how they would sound closer to the wall… you of course need to allow for the cables to be free. My dealer installed mine in that position which also worked well for the NBLs I owned previously. I suspect getting much closer to the wall you might run into bass overload problems.

I know the sound is key but if my wife cannot stand the size of them (entering the room from the kitchen they will be visible side on) they may be a no go, no matter how good they sound. Thanks for the info - very helpful. There is a possibility I could add a records cupboard purpose made in a style that my wife would be happy with that would conceal the speakers from the side. A bit …

You need to make that greenhouse very comfortable for her…like-a home from home😉

Could possibly be the first triple glazed greenhouse on the forum ??

Triple glazed? :eyes:

If I’m not careful I might have to live in it!

This isn’t the photo that she showed me yesterday but it’s as close as I can find on a quick search - about the right size and style

…well when you design the greenhouse make sure you have a set of speakers built in. It may be a lovely retreat or just for the days when your wife has you performing manly tasks out there in the green house.

About the cost of a 555psdr…

I don’t do gardening, thank you very much. Terrible memories of my mother forcing me to weed the garden in the 70s. Yuk

With the concrete base I think it might work out a bit higher than that

Go tasteful Tim :+1:t3: (and no incentive to be had to complain about 808s size). ATB Peter
