500 v 2x300 active?

I agree the side view may not be to everyone’s taste, mine are viewed face on when entering the room. My wife loves them and the sound they produce!!

Erm not quite sure how to react to that :joy: just a tad outside budget

Are they tineo? I would quite like the oak finish which would be a better style fit to the house but the available ones are tineo (I have heard of some red tineo ones too). Might have to do a deal with acoustica to see if I could wait (even if it’s a year or two and it costs more) to get an oak pair

That greenhouse looks posh. Might have to go for 707s, Tim!

I wonder if there are ex-dem or pre-loved greenhouses out there?

At this rate I might have to go for nSats!

Wonder if my wife would prefer to have some of these Linn speakers instead

(Over my dead body etc)

How big is your room???

You could go for B&W 805D3 and a Velodyne DD18+ sub that would lift the roof off your place and sound amazing and be very descrete… If you were flush you could have 2 Velodynes. These are infinite baffle subs that tune themselves to your room and are amazing… I use a DD10+ … However I suspect you may think this solution uncouth…

I hear Linn owners who have fallen on hard times are recycling their old Y-Fronts and pressing them into service to cover their speakers. Apparently if you tie-dye the larger XXLs you would be hard pressed to tell the difference!

Apologies to those of you who have the big Linn socks, I’m only kidding!

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in the Linn marketing meeting when the big socks were first mooted!

They remind me of the old Mordrant Shorts in 70s…

Ok so this is the view from the kitchen / living room. From the doorway to the far wall is about 30 feet. Left to right at the far side is about 20 feet wide and the nearleft side corner is taken up by the side hall / stair well (about 8 feet across and 12 feet long)

I don’t like B&W speakers. A friend has 802d3 and they don’t do anything for me. Neither did his previous 803s

Tim, why not pull that armchair back towards the kitchen and towards the wall (roughly in front of what looks like a basket of wood) so it will hide the side view of the 808s.

Your wife will be outside enjoying the new greenhouse and a couple of glasses of wine that you will pour her when it gets too cold out there.

Job done!

No need to thank me, my pleasure.

I am thinking a record storage unit with painted wood sides and shelf and an oak top shelf that space might hide them ok. That isn’t a well thought out space for the chair which is going to be re-covered soon but it can’t live by the wall - needs to be in a sort of rectangle with the sofa and the fireplace and the fraim racks

Bet you they’ll sound fabulous there :+1:t3: No pressure Peter

That’ll work, but she will notice the 808s whatever you do. I assume you are going to have a nice sit down and ‘seek her views’.

I once went and just bought a motorbike without discussion, thinking I would never get permission, so seeking forgiveness was my only option.

I’m never going to do that again!

…and they will obscure one Fraim stack in that view, it’s win win!

The Kudos Titan Oak finish is very nice.

I have the 606s in Oak which are active and powered by 2 X 250DR and a 606 tuned SNAXO 242.

However, can’t compare against a 500.

Well the frostiest reception came for the drum kit when that arrived in that room (since moved to a new room). Ooh that was a  few days. I will never forget her words “Why do you have to be so ridiculously over the top about everything?”. I even thought I had permission for them as I had been having drum lessons for a good few weeks at that stage. :grimacing:

I showed her a photo of oak 808s when she complained about hifi manufacturers’ failure to design anything that would suit her idea of rustic farmhouse charm. Oh dear - the photo was taken low down (making them look about 6 feet tall) and got a very negative response .

Still, onwards and upwards . So far I have been allowed two caterham 7s, a Lotus Elise, a bass guitar, a drum kit (yeah I know), rather a lot of green lights on black boxes …

When I ordered my 606s it was close call between Oak and Tineo but after a call to Kudos to discuss the finishes I chose the Tineo.

Pictures don’t do them justice they look a totally different shade than the brochure luckily my dealer had Tineo finishe on some 505s in the shop in order I could choose. The 606s I had out on demo were walnut which was darker than the Oak furniture in my lounge. The Tineo was a better match.
