As one goes up the ladder these things become more significant. The 552 is very sensitive and really benefits from separation. The SN3 is less sensitive and you may or may not notice a difference. I have my SN3 above the NDX2, solely because it makes it easier to get to the buttons and the volume knob.
How about some pipe insulation to keep the cables from touching the floor, the wall and each other? Worth a try for the pennies that they cost.
And you might try this for an orderingā¦
552 300 PS
ND555 552 PS
300 Head 555 PS
This gives the burndies a little more ādistanceā to cross and might help avoid touching the floor at least.
Thanks Gavin I think Iāll try that before the the 552 arrives with my 252
Sounds stressful.
Maybe you can get the burndys off the floor by not having the heads and their PSs on the same levels. If both the 300 boxes are at the bottom, the burndy will be on the floor. But if the 300 PS is on the second or third level, it maybe wonāt.
This will lead to some cable crossing, but I have that and they donāt touch.
Iāve said it before and got some laughs, but nevertheless:
Get a piece of paper and a pen. Draw the racks to scale like 1:10. Cut off pieces of string to the same scale to stand in for cables. Play around to see what works. IMHO this beats lifting boxes and you can test various layouts quickly.
(If one wants to know the distance from London to Paris, one also doesnāt drive there but measures it on a map)
I have:
252 / SC
NDX2 / 300 PS
SuperLine pushed far left / 555PS for NDX2
300 / empty (PowerLine excess)
Yes crossing the cables makes good sense. My current arrangement is as recommended by the dealer, by I quite fancy doing some experimentation. Great idea on the scale drawing and sting!
I have the following:
LP12 (on Isolation platform) 552DR PS
552 Head XPSDR
NDX2 300DR PS
300 Head
HDX
I do also have a cable box on the top shelf and my TV on top of the right stack. I split my system into 2 stacks when I still had my 282 and this made a noticable improvement to the depth and width of the soundstage.
May I enquire as to why ? Right now I have my NDX2 on top of the Fraim stack (below the wall mounted LP12) and above my 252. Never tried the 252 above the NDX2 (and beneath the LP12). If this would be optimum I will swap them round. Thanks.
I donāt know for sure. Just something found through experimentation. At a guess these devices possibly radiate something that affects the analog preamp if too close, the more so if they are located above than below.
Thanks for the response. Will try it out next time I rebuild the stack.
For the 552 you have the large heavy floating brass plate which may shield from electronic items below it?
Slightly off thread Richard
I have on top shelf the LP12
Then the SN3
Then by itself the superline by itself
Do you think that is optimum ? Or maybe flip the SN3 and Superline ?
Regards
Bevo
Why donāt you just try it and see which sounds best to you? If you canāt detect any difference, go for what looks best or is most practical. Easy.
It has to be worth a try if youāre curious.
