Hi,
I’ve just downloaded a few new albums on my GF’s Synology, from the same folder on the Mac where I keep them. They have been stored in the ‘untagged’ folder in Minimserver and I cannot see them with the others, metadata and all.
I am not good enough to sort it, can someone help me please? What are ‘untagged’ files?
Thanks a lot,
M
Metadata is often referred to as a ‘tag’ so untagged simply means without metadata.
If the album was downloaded without metadata you need to look it up on one of the online databases such as Rovi which can supply it, or you can add it manually. Either of these processes are best done on a computer using metadata editing software such as Metadatics or MP3tag. It’s a tedious activity of course, although the software is easy enough to use.
Thanks. I copied the albums on my Mac, they seemed to be ok with metadata, I also added cover art. I’ll delete them and try again.
I don’t understand. I’ve already uploaded 120 albums on my GF’s Synology with Minimserver. The last five I’m trying to upload - with metadata and cover art - end in the ‘untagged’ folder as single files with title, and the server doesn’t seem to see them in the main folder, the number of albums doesn’t change.
Any suggestions please? Thanks.
What app did you use to confirm that the metadata was ok. If it’s the built in Music App, then if I understand correctly, it may well not store all the metadata inside the file, as it uses its own database. Suggest you download mp3tag from the App Store. There is a small payment, but it’s a brilliant app, and used by many forum members

Thanks. I’ll do. But I’ve ripped all my albums with/in Apple Music and it’s the first or second time it happens in 120 albums or so..
Presumably these files have accessible metadata when used with Apple Music? What about other UPnP servers. You could try, for example, the free music server bundled with the Synology NAS.
I dare say there’s a simple explanation but I can’t put my finger on it. If you’re getting nowhere I would suggest that you post your problem on the Minimserver forum. Chances are that the developer, Simon, will respond, and he can usually sort these issues out.
