A recent win10 update has blocked desktop client from finding any of the old servers

I am trying to keep a uServe alive for one of my friends. It works as expected and can be managed from the n-serve iphone app, and until sometime not long ago also from the windows desktop client. However now even on win10 Any search for servers just returns no server on the network, even though the userve is there.

Other stremers seem to have similar problems but not the same Ie.g. it has been reported that bluesound volt users have a problem logging on tto the volt. This can maybe be solved by a regedit hack but most likely this is not what will solve thedesktop client problem.

Looking around maybe eenabling mediea streamin on the windows machine could solve this, but currently I have no server on my own network to try.

I think the main point is that you need your PC to have the SMB1 protocol running. Windows 10 and 11 have it turned off now by default because it is highly deprecated for security reasons. But the US and HDX will only allow PCs to talk to them using SMB1 (not SMB2 or SMB3). Microsoft never patched XP Embedded, which is the operating system that the US and HDX use, so there is no alternative but to tell the PC to run SMB1.

You can easily find by google how to do that, but it may need to be reset after every restart of the PC or some other inconvenient similar thing.

Unfortunately this was done, and a curious setting something like always disable was alsoeunchecked or I did uncheck it wwith no luck, but maybe I need to find the command to check the status of the feature?

You may need to also change settings to allow the PC to connect to a remote computer (the US or HDX) with guest access). But this is getting beyond my knowledge, although I did manage to do it on a W11 machine so that I could access my Core’s downloads folder.

Another thing to check is whether the PC is set as being on a Private or Public network.

You can check this by going in to Settings, Network & Internet, under Network status it should say either Private network or Public network, you want this to be private.
