It’s all about the timing and having an open channel to a supportive dealer. Whenever I’ve had an eye on something particular I just ask when their demo unit will come up for a refresh, which they typically do every 12 months anyway. They’re given a decent headroom on demo kit in terms of cost anyway, in the 30% below retail ballpark.
Headroom on Linn kit is even more, I’ve usually easily got 25% off retail on any Linn bits I’ve picked up in relation to my Selekt for example.
