Yes, in what will be very limited situations for many people. I think we have taken this as far as it can go. I am not arguing against subs in principle. I am arguing against haphazardly assembled new system purchases without a plan and against premature optimization. If the sub will be placed and integrated as carefully as the system has been planned, it may just as well make things worse
Not my experience, sorry. I mean, a bit, maybe. A problem, no. I don’t have to turn it up like crazy to feel air moving and couch vibrating. There’s also the personal preference of how much trouser flapping one wants in one’s home, and the consideration of neighbors. It is possible to prefer listening at a bit higher volume by having less pronounced sub bass, as opposed to having to turn it down because else the neighbors hear the sub bass.
And frankly, Billie Eilish or James Blake are doing sufficient trouser flapping with my MAs
I would break in kanta2s and nova for a while like others have suggested and then decide if you need or want anything more at that point. I had a nova and it has plenty of power. But I play a lot of vinyl and wanted pure analog for that.
So I demoed a 202/200 and it not only improved my vinyl listening experience. It also improved my streaming experience. So I made the change.
But the nova gave me 2 great years before the change. So see what you think first before you start adding. Plus then you get to hear the changes and know what it sounded like before so you have a better baseline for judging the changes.
Must admit I have not thought about upgrading my nova and haven’t come across this. Appreciate a link please. Thanks.
As much as I wish my nova will last forever, it is a streaming platform which is evolving quickly and may get out of date sooner than I would like. It is a beautiful piece of gear and one that helped naim to catch up with the industry trends and market demands so well done there. Without researching into possibilities, I won’t think naim would make it a closed system and risk not selling more components and not exploit the popularity / success of the uniti range. Thus, again, upgrading and wanting to upgrade is not the debate. If it can be done, we will do it! Anyone resistant to upgrading has a hard time on this forum.
It is more than this. Where I am down under, the market, support network and second hand market are small or at least smaller than UK. Even with auditioning, it still takes a step of faith. Reputation of the brand we all count on regarding quality, upgrade, support, and everything else. We all know the risk of not auditioning and importance of system matching here. Good thing there is this forum with many helpful people with great experiences and knowledge to share, a few of them are naim staffs.
Correction: I have subs hooked up to my nova, custom built power, interconnects, speaker cables, network switch and isolation my nova rests on and a few more things. So technically I guess I have done some upgrading or tweaking and one doesn’t realise until you try to count them.
To answer the original question - I did add a 250DR to my Nova along with a Powerline mains cable. The improvement in sound was very noticeable. Later added Super Lumina’s both to the speakers and between the 250DR to Nova. Again a very significant improvement in sound. My motivation in part was that after I had the Nova for awhile I set my upgrade path as either a 282 and NDX2 or the successor to the 272. So I viewed the 250DR as the logical first step in the upgrade path. Glad I held off on the 282 - NDX2. - as it looks promising that a new alternative streamer- pre amp option will be forthcoming…… Fingers crossed……
Don’t see why, I will buy a 272 V2 with either an XPSDR or a 555PS when it eventually emerges even if it functions stand alone, again probably without auditioning…
…I may opt for a PS555 with an ND555 in mind for a later date…does that still make it odd?
This is the use as a stepping stone that I mentioned, as you know that you will switch to a pre unit that has no power amp built in. Makes sense. I am questioning buying a Nova with 250 as end game and wasting half of the Nova’s cost on an amp that will never get used. NDX2/SN3 would seem like a very sensible alternative
His first post on this forum, and he’s flooded by a barrage of replies that tell him what he’s doing wrong – which according to the experts is basically everything – and what he should be doing instead. It’s all well intentioned ofcourse, but he hasn’t even had a chance to respond and there are 50+ replies in his thread telling him what to do.
Hello Bunta and welcome to the Forums! I have found the Uniti Nova and Kanta 2 a fantastic combo in a medium-size room. I would enjoy the experience before thinking upgrades.
I hope the OP does not consider the comments ‘unfriendly’ but I think it is sensible to advise that there is a fundamental choice to be made at the outset here.
Either go for an excellent one box solution if that is your ‘end game’ or if looking at an upgrade path then go for separates from the get go because if you don’t then you will inevitably be going back to step one at some stage.
That makes sense to me but at the end of the day it’s your money and your choice. Same as Subs really where my previous comments were somewhat ‘tongue in cheek’!
I run the Nova in a second system with ATC SCM40s and it is very, very good. Indeed I think if I was starting out today I would probably be happy with it.
You’re right. However I would follow @Naim.Marketing sugestion :
Enjoy the combo first ( for a period of time).
And then…. Act ( or not) according his convictions
I can absolutely second this. Many people underestimate this effect. With my subwoofer turned off, the voices sound more closed. With the subwoofer turned back on, the whole presentation opens up. Even if there is little low end in the song. It’s really remarkable.
