@stax187 i don’t have the 222, but the NPX300 has been found by many on here to make a huge difference with the 222. I have the 322/333 and NC250 and have two NPX300 units and don’t regret it at all. They make a huge difference and would assume they would do with the 222 as well.
I had an ‘official’ Naim demo of the all the NC kit some time ago at a dealership.
In terms of SQ hierarchy, mine and the general consensus amongst the gathered listeners was that the addition of the NPX300 to the 222 made a significant difference when paired with a 250.
However it still lagged behind the 333 and 332 (without NPX300s) pairing by some margin (with the 250) as you would expect given the additional cost.
If you don’t plan to get the NPX300 at some stage you may as well get an Atom HE and save a few £’000s. But as the thought of a 300 is in your mind, grab a good deal on the 222/250 and then try a 300 a few months or years down the line. It will be a lovely pairing with the 606 speakers.
The 222 plus 250 for circa £7k, Grade A, sounds an excellent deal and you certainly won’t be disappointed. If you add an NPX300 at a similar deal, perhaps later on if necessary, you’ll be even more delighted.
Obviously if going further up the tree, eg 300 Series, it should sound even better, but of course you’ll blow your budget away.
I have a pair of Titan 505’s with my 222/300/250 and absolutely cannot fault them, so the 606’s will be equally, if not a little more, few.
And some of us found that it made a very modest improvement that didnt justify the cost, Burndy hassle etc. The 222/250 combo is outstanding in its own right
At the price you are being offered the pair, I think you are getting a great bargain. They will come with a warranty. Whilst I haven’t bought refurbished Naim kit, I have from other manufacturers and never had any problems, I doubt Naim would be any different.
The NPX300 does make a significant difference and a good upgrade for a future date. And if you want to upgrade the 222 to a 332/333 pairing you will have an NPX300 already, only needing to buy one if you want the 332/333 to have an external PS.
NSC222 and NC250 were made to be used together, by Naim, so are complementary and produce a different sound signature compared to the “old classic” range (imo better).
The deal of £7k compared to £11.4k seems very good too.
OEM cables are great to get you started and will give you a base line so you can tweak to your personal preference later on but this is not mandatory!
Plus Naim and Kudos is a popular combination with KS1 speaker cable on the forum (I don’t have this combo so can’t add to this really).
Only issue is there is so much choice and good quality gear these days.
Good luck.
I had a 3 hrs session listening to different Naim NC sets. Starting from the basic 222/250 to 222-300/250, a 222/350/350 alternative up to the 222-300/350/350. Had no time left ( not reserved the 332/333)
The dealer had the system paired with my current speakers ( SF Nova Olympica 3) which loves a bit more power from an amplifier so I felt the NAP 350 where needed..But with the NAP 250 the NPX 300 really lifted the sound from adequate to good.
My opinion was at that time a bit miffed..Yes, the improvement was huge, but going from a 15k system to a 22k system is a big move..Not that the final expenditure for the NPX 300 was not worth it…But more the dissapointment regarding the bare 222/250 that without the NPX 300, failed to really inspire me
From the pictures i’ve seen the, npx300 looks like a xpsdr in a new box. Similar looking transformer, caps etc. The 555dr is a whole different animal. Yeah, I get the whole “it all matches” bit, but would a ( half price pre owned) 555dr not sound better?
I think you’ll want the PS to get the most out of the 222/250 with the Kudos. I prefer the 555 to the 300 so that could be an option if you see a low hour s/h 555 out there.
