Airlines and their apps

So, with my current job, I’m fortunate to travel quite a bit. That means using lots of airlines. Although, usually, if I wish to go direct, that means BA. Their app simply does not work well (often not at all) on Android. Yet, other airlines’ apps and online check-in are great, e.g., EasyJet. Then there is China Eastern (a good airline) which doesn’t have an app nor any way of online check-in. All is done at the airport.

What are others’ experiences?

I use BA regularly and have encountered no problems with the app.

I also use BA frequently and their app on my iPhone leaves a lot to be desired. Frequently technical issues ask me to log in later to get the information I need. Regularly resort to logging into ba dot com instead. So problems may not be just confined to android.

But to be fair their poor app does perform marginally better than the airline itself! Far too many late minute flight cancellations in my experience, and once they do cancel your flight BA show little interest in helping their customers find an alternative way of getting home.

Android?

I have a work iPhone that fares better than my Samsung with the app. But yes, I often have to log out/back in.

The check-in staff at LHR never look happy. And their check-in staff outside of the UK can be hostile!

I used Etihad to go to the UAE the other week, and even slummed it in economy (they don’t do premium economy), and my goodness, what a positive difference. From app to bag drop to plane and once on the plane (A380), how nice.

And yes, Ba’s answer to their android app is to use their web version ! Like it is still 2005 !

I used to use BA out of preference for long haul, but found other airlines, notably Cathay Pacific and Singapore much better, so haven’t used BA app much in past few years, but no problems when I have used it (iPhone).

I always have a mixed experience with BA and often when booking have to phone them to get things sorted. Their IT systems seems lacking to me.

I’ve never used Qatar but a friend of mines rates them very highly

Their legacy systems are what is killing their apps. Or at least that is what they tell me. Even at T5 LHR theur staff moan how crap BA’s IT systems are. I just know when i go to drop my bag tomorrow and use my passport it will not recongnise me and my checked in ticket.
No other airline I use is that poor.

BA was great 10-15 years ago when T5 opened. Not so good now.
Qatar works well
Emirates works well
Singapore works well
Saudia works well

Agree with all those. Their economy is often better than premium economy of most others.

Qatar, head and shoulders above everyone else.

They are very good.
I think Emirates are very close. I had a delicious Tandoori Lobster flying on Emirates on Friday evening, and a proper cup of tea..

Wish me luck. BA to Warsaw tomorrow.

We use Wizz Air for when we go to Poland and their app works fine on iPhone.

DG…

I used Wizz air to return from warsaw last time ( when lhr was closed due to that transfirmer fire).

3 things surprised me. Wizz Air were really quite good. Luton Airport was really quite good ( yes it’s had some work done recently) and the Wizz app and check in was good too.

BA’s app is rubbish, as is their website. I have to regularly delete cookies from BA’s site otherwise I cannot log in at all. It is unquestionably the worst website of anything that I still use. The app basically doesn’t work at all for me, doesn’t retrieve my reservations, and then when it does I’m unable to use it to check in. Their head of technology should be very ashamed.

Haha. I didn’t intend this thread to be about how crap BA and/or their app is. But…

I’m at LHR T5, and it was chaotic getting through security today. Very little appeared to be working.

On top of that, of course, my passport was not recognized by their “check yourself in and do our job” machines. The person at the entrance said that was not unusual. He asked for my boarding card, and when I said it was on a Samsung phone, he instantly said, “That will not work either.”
