All the sudden harsh bright

I’m running wilson sabrina x w my sn3 ndx2 and all the sudden they sound bright harsh. NOT AS FLESHY. i run them all the time.

Check speaker cable connections to ‘speakers.

Possible problem in crossover? (are both speakers the same?)

Yes, I would concentrate on the speakers first. It sounds like distortion so check the tweeters in both speakers. Do you know if there’s been any event (very high volume) that could have blown the tweeters? If it’s just in one speaker swap the speaker leads over at the amp to check the electronics.

Can you try to describe the effect in more detail?

On the basis of what you’ve said so far, bright suggests excess treble - if so, is there any bass? Harsh is less clear a description - do you mean distorted, in which casex overload of some sort suggests itself, or possibly damaged overheated voice coils causing rubbing/scraping in the driver magnet gap, but I wouldn’t expect that to increase treble level.

Restart the full rig.

Seems like a lot of speaker for a SN3, Wilsons aren’t known to be the easiest to drive/like good power.

Could be a number of things causing the issue but are the protection resistors still good/how old/ever been replaced?

All of a sudden? This happened to me years ago, transpired one of the speaker wires had come off!

I’d make and break all of the systems connections to give them a clean - doesn’t hurt once in a while anyway

“Fleshy"? :thinking::face_with_monocle:

I’d guess ‘lacking body’, ‘thin’ sounding.

Bit like when my Burndy needed a gentle shake…and it worked: brought the ‘body’ back.

I would go through all cables…make sure contacts are clean etc etc. Then power back up and check each speaker …. do they both sound bright?? Do all sources sound bright? Are you on a ring main …turn off all appliances and then test. Led lights and dimmers can also cause issues. Finally once you have removed all other things from the equation…I would try and take my amp to a good dealer and test it against an equivalent. Incidentally make sure you keep your amp on all the time…there is a thread on this…Naim amps like to be kept on.

I think they’ve done a runner.

The XS3 is exhausted by the Wilson Sabrina. He needs 24 hours sleep.

Where’s the OP? Questions asked and no response…. But maybe it’s early yet.

American. Time difference, who knows?

FWIW suddenly suffered from harsh bright this noon as well but in the end it’s the cd player’s Burndy accidentially fell on preamp’s Burndy. Lovely low ends came back after a quick dressing.
