Seminal album. I owned it on a cassette in 71 then vinyl then CD now hi-res FLAC on a NAS. Always played, still inspirational!
Still my fave live album
I really should get hold of some more Booker T. Love his organ sound
AhhhhhâŚnot the worldâs greatest vocalistâŚbut he d@mn sure could play that geetar!
PFM - great band -got a couple of their LPs (Photos⌠& The WorldâŚ; the anglicised versions), and a box set of CDs. Also got a couple of rips of some of their songs in Italian - just as fine!
Saw them at Manchester Uni sometime in the 72-75 period.
Interesting to note that Pete Hammill did the lyrics for Le Orme, coz that other great lyricist Pete Sinfield did the English lyrics for PFM
From a guy older than you: I totally agree!
But after Islands, with all new components (apart Fripp, of course), they made three fantastic albums: Larks tongues in aspic, Starless and RedâŚ
Yes, me too. That album is however apart of others of his discography. The only one I have.
Perhaps you know Johnny Hammond Smith, organist too? These 2 albums from 1971 are excellent.
Listening to Collage on YootoobâŚ
âŚ't ainât half bad!
(English euphemism for âD@mn nice!â
)
Not heard of Johnny HammondâŚwill look him out.
I can claim though to still have my copy of Booker Tâs 45rpm single âTime Is Tightâ. And since I bought a Lingo PSU for my Linn Sondek, I can actually play it LOL
Amazing how many of these are still very much listened to today.
Lennon, McCartney, Simon and Garfunkel, the Who and Faces, Hendrix, very sixtyish, then Bolan, Carpeners, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Carole King synonymous with the 70s for me.

SJB,
Perhaps coz there was so much great music around that time.
And it was in that year (or maybe 1970?) I saw some band from California singing your âforum nameâ at Southampton Guildhall - my first concert!
Speaking of whom, has this great 1971 album been mentioned
Edit: I see it has, @BobF around post 94. But as itâs so good, Iâll give it a second mention ![]()
I saw the Beach Boys for the first time at the Great Western Express festival in Lincolnshire 1972, they were awesome, I distinctly remember a fantastic performance of Student Demonstration Time from Surfs Up, and of course all the brilliant surf, cars and girls songs. Great band, and the fabulous song writing of Brian Wilson, who in 1972 wasnât touring, and Dennis Wilson wasnât there either having injured his hand.
I was only 1.5 years old in 1971 but I think this album came out then and I was much enjoying it 10 years later.
I had found that my liking for them had lessened progressively, then they released the worst ever live recording, Earthbound. which I bought but found only 21st Century Schizoid Man tolerable. I think I heard Larkâs Tongue, but I cannot say for certain. Maybe Iâll have a listen on SpotifyâŚ
Number 9 UK chart mid 1971 - does that count?and @Premmyboy mentioned it on post 82.
âI was 11 in 1971 and didnât have the money for albums at the time.
I started getting singles a year or so later. Looking through my collection now I have found a couple of classics not mentioned so far.
Kevin Ayers - Whatevershebringswesing
Roy Harper - Stormcock
The Groundhogs - Splitâ
Olivia Newton John covered Dylanâs âif not for youâ, that I didnât know.

It had been - but yours provides the pic!
