Interesting. We generated 7.2 kWh from just 11 panels (455W). Our max was 12.4 kWh.
Today was our best day this month with 7.8. 15 in January is a dream for us.
Depends obviously where you are in the country/world. Today here started misty and overcast, then about 12 ish the sun came out for a few hours.
The best day for me this year so far was 10 January, 15.60 kw, but the first week of January was not bad, most over 10 kw and 2 over 15 kw
We are in the sunniest part of England, but the house faces ESE rather than South, and at the moment the sun is behind trees until about 11. The trees are beautiful oaks that have been there over 200 years, so they can’t be blamed. They were there first. As our bills were zero last year I cannot complain.
Just had a quick look and some very interesting info there. A few vids to digest over the weekend.
Yes, interesting stuff. But for me only two solar companies suggested who were too far away for my liking. Wanted a local company.
Fair enough. Local is important for ongoing support.
My weather report suggests today there is a fresh breeze. The bending trees seem to disagree - I hope they aren’t going up today ![]()
Well our solar battery combo has just been installed, one panel could not be fitted so we have a 21 panel 10 kw system with 18kw storage. This has really nudged my inner nerd to the forefront. A cloudy afternoon and its working, fine.
That’s good news. Out of interest, approximately how much was the installation you’ve gone for ?
It was about £15k if i remember correctly, its a Sigenergy system with a 10 kw inverter and an off grid gateway. There are cheaper systems out there but this ticked our box for its modular, compact, expandable design.
Thanks Gary - that’s useful info, thanks. Hope all goes well with your new installation ![]()
Good news! Interesting to see prices have dropped so much since our installation just over two and a half years ago. Though our installation was arguably cheap compared to maintaining the wind turbine
. That’s the thing with technology of course - but you cannot delay indefinitely or you will never cover anything. Still, happy to have done it
Very sensible looking system there @Gazza .
Which electricity tariff are you going to use?
Having tried Octopus Flux for several years, we have just switched to Intelligent Octopus Go + Outgoing Octopus. This combination seems to be suiting us better so far.
Best regards, BF
We had a brief power cut today. Lost a little bit of work. We are having a backup interface fitted in late March. It does not prevent a brief cut while it activates, but I guess the Naim Transformer will not notice.
Phil
Well we are a bit stuck. We were with a supplier that went bust and were given to british gas. Not ideal. However we have a plug in hybrid without EV charger and Octopus will not give an EV tariff…….but british gas did, no questions asked. So until we get an EV, we will probably stick with BG.
The guy installing did a manual operation of the Sigenergy gateway…….the lights did not even flicker. The only way you would know is if you were nearby and heard the gateway actuate…….bit of a thump. They claim a class leading actuation time of 0 ms? Interestingly when the grid comes back on the gateway does not immediately actuate, waiting for stability for about a minute.
Check out Tim & Kat’s Green Walk YouTube channel. Tim has built a web tool that compares a range of tariffs against your usage. IOG is often the best if you have an EV.
Very similar operation to the Tesla PW3 and Gateway 2 system we have, although I didn’t notice any sound when we had our EV charger fitted and the sparky isolated the mains.
