I am still using the old Ash Designs Cosmic racks which Naim favoured before they launched Fraim. Unfortunately they are no longer in production and I need to fit a larger top glass shelf to take big turntables in for review rather than my Naim CDi which is usually on the top deck of rack 1. My Gyro is on rack 2 and already has a bigger shelf ordered to fit it when I ordered the rack.
So I know I want a shelf 600mm x 450mm and 10mm thick to match the one under the Gyro. The edges look greenish but beyond that I am at a loss to know what they used as there are so many types of glass!
Does anybody have any idea what I need to order I’m assuming it’s tempered glass???
Glazing companies can cut and edge polish 10mm toughened glass (BS EN12150) to any size you need. Not long ago a local outfit supplied me with 4 Fraim sized pieces for a little over £100.
I found a used complete rack for sale just now, might be worth a search on the usual places if that’s an option? It was listed at £150 though, so possibly pricier than the options already discussed!
Thanks everyone - I think I got lucky, just discovered my daughter’s best friend has a boyfriend who is a glazier and he’s popping by tomorrow to take a look…
@Mr.Tibbs
Was the glass the same colour as the Fraim glass?
I have a five level Fraim, but have replaced my NDX2 with a different Streaming DAC…which, is too big for the Fraim glass! So will have to get a new piece of glass.
I believe Fraim uses 10mm toughened glass made by Pilkington. Whether using the same stuff would make any difference with non-Naim gear and/or a non-Naim rack is anyone’s guess.
