No alcohol and no caffiene is the healthiest choice. But if you are going to consume these things then moderation is the key. In my case I used to drink around 4 bottles of wine a week plus some brandy now and again. I like wine very much and really used to enjoy a nice glass of brandy now and again. However I was very aware that I was exceeding the 14 units a week limit by quite a bit. I was overweight as well. I went on a diet to lose weight (now down to a healthy figure) and cut down to one bottle of wine a week. To supplement the wine as something to drink with my nibbles when I watched a DVD/Blu ray I chose San Pellegrino water. Probably because I’m extremely fond of Italian white wines (for red I generally prefer French).
I found that I really enjoyed the water to the extent that I became less and less bothered about the wine. Then antibiotics for a dental infection over Christmas meant no alcohol. I decided not to resume drinking alcohol after that and I’ve been dry ever since. I can’t say I really miss it now. If I did then I would just drink one or maybe two bottles a week. I’ve never really been a lager drinker but I’ve discovered Nastro Azzurro alcohol free Italian lager which is lovely so I have a bottle of that a night with the water. Alcohol free wines on the other hand taste disgusting to me. Same with caffeine. I’ve got used to decaff coffee bags now.
But each to their own and do what you’re happiest doing.
