I am finding some zero beers helpful as they are bitter and not too sweet. Trying a few different ones.
I was seriously thinking about Dry January but it looks like I’m too late now. Maybe next year
Feb is shorter!!
I tried loads of low alcohol beers a few years ago and found a few I quite liked - Guinness Zero, Lucky Saint and Brooklyn Special Effects were my favourites. Fancied quite a few Belgian/monastic ones but found carb content in most rather high.
I’ve tried to avoid them in the last couple of weeks but did have a Guinness zero the other day and didn’t enjoy it at all - maybe it was quite an old can. Oddly I didn’t enjoy Lucky Saint at Christmas time either. Maybe my taste has changed.
I started late in 2nd week of January but am tiring of it. Much easier I find to stop for a few weeks than to cut back which just leads to ‘having another’ on the days I have a beer or glass of wine.
Yes, it is a lot easier to have none than one.
Confession time! I fell off the wagon a few days ago unfortunately. My son invited us over for his first dinner party. He cooked short rib of beef and served a lovely bottle of Bordeaux (turns out I gave it to him a few years ago), so it felt rude not to indulge! I am going to try and drink less though, but as someone once said “ so many fine wines, so little time”.
February passed in a drunken stupor as folk in their masses survived dry January only to take to the bottle in vengeance

I’m afraid I had to press the pause button and hopped off the wagon - preparing my tax return the last few days and realising I may have a huge pension annual allowance tax charge next year as well as a retrospective one from a few years ago necessitated a stiff drink or two. ![]()
At least you know it all goes to a good cause. ![]()
The wine or my taxes? ![]()
So far, the month has been very easy without booze.
more productive and less fattening.
I could quite happily get used to this, I think.
The tricky issue is that I haven’t really done any socialising in January.
So as soon as I get someone round to listen to some music and chat, or if I go out to a party or go out for a meal, that’s when the potential trouble might begin!
Yes, the same, I have found it easy. But, we haven’t been out in the evening, only lunchtimes. Don’t know whether I will have a drink on February 1st…yet.
I’m definitely not planning to have a drink just because January is over.
I found it so easy to not drink this month that I’m just gonna carry on not drinking until a great opportunity to maybe have a drink comes up…
Roll on Sunday! The main benefit has been moderately improved sleep. No noticable weight loss, but then I’ve been drinking 0% to 0.5% alternatives. No shortage of them in the pubs and venues visited this month. Hopefully the real improvements are internal.
Pretty sure I lost a few pounds and was less bloated during first 7 days or so, but I actually found I seemed to be eating more as time went on which was unexpected.
Have not been very good this week, but am planning to have another shot at it in February.
How was it? I’ve seen it in Aldi previously and forgot to pick up a bottle last night to try.
It was ok, I shall buy some again. I have been trying a few different ones. The zero Guinness is good, if you like the stuff. I quite like Estrella Damm zero.
My dry January will end tomorrow night as I’m out with friends. This was always planned. It will probably get messy however, lots of fun ![]()
Going forward, I plan to drink less often so will see how that goes.
I’ve not touched a drop and found it quite easy in the end. Good luck to those carrying it on.
Cheers ![]()
