Apple movie purchase

Anyone here buy movie ‘downloads to keep’ from Apple?

You don’t need an Apple subscription;
They automatically play at the highest video/sound level available, eg 4K and with various Dolby options;
If Apple upgrades the quality, eg One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest goes up to 4K, your version automatically upgrades too;
You can play on any number of devices eg iPhone on the train;
You can download to your device so no streaming issues;
They always have a few gems that cost between £3 and £5;
They download immediately.
They have extras (not sure if the same as Blu-Ray).

I’ve built up a a library of 200 to 300 classic movies and TV shows so far. I just scan the bargain section every Saturday morning. I’ve only watched about half so far, but they’re there whenever I’m ready…

If I buy a download of an album from Qobuz it’s mine I can store it on a NAS or a USB stick and effectively play it where I like.

Is this the same with an Apple download movie if I buy the download is it mine? Can I store it where I like and convert the file type?

You can download a local copy but it may not be 4k hd.. not sure about conversion of file format as never tried.

No it is only accessible from the Apple Store.

As I understand it you own the right to view it in perpetuity via their store, at the best version available, whether that be 4K, 8k, 16k or who knows 128k in the future.

You cannot put it on your NAS nor can you change the file format.

But if something comes along to replace Blu-Ray and no new BR machines…

Listen, I know it’s not perfect and I know there is a lot of trust here, and no I’ve not read all the legals, but £3 for the best version of Butch Cassidy that I can play anywhere… it ain’t bad.

BTW I have The Ipress File in my library that came as a free Apple download with a DVD years and years ago - I noticed it turned up in my library without me having to buy it again… and the sound is brilliant.

Anyway, it is not all things to all people, but I like the convenience, the quality is excellent and it’s dead cheap.

You cannot put it on your NAS

This is not the case, It depends on where the AppleTv app is run. The app running on my Mac, for example, has the function to download a copy to your local library. The location is set within the prefences and can be external storage. You can set the Mac app to automatically download a copy. The purchase could be made on any device running AppleTv which is linked to the same account.

The downloads are m4v format and can be copied to iPads or iPhones for offline viewing etc.
