Apple Music HiFi Tier incoming?

Yes, and with some early adapters that worked Apple later revised downwards their power output!

It’s likely available in Apple Developer documentation, but in many ways it currently does what it does and that’s limited.

That was long ago, at least as an end-user. It’s now mostly a confusing mess. Apple have always been prone to ā€˜our way or the highway’ though.

Generic feedback page, look under Services.

I think it’s fine if you have a USB DAC already but many won’t, plus you may need new adapters for iOS/iPad OS devices.

Opening Airplay 2 up would be the ideal approach for many.

I’m scratching my head currently around several options.

AppleTV 4k probably won’t work to Nova’s HDMI ARC even if I run one headless.

Best potential option is my 2012 Mini running headless to the Nova via the Mini Toslink output, but it’s my go to device. Time to get an M1!

I’m assuming older iTunes versions won;t support lossless/hi-res but am not certain - I have an older Mini which would be ideal but is limited to High Sierra I think so potentially no good iTunes version.

Can’t think of a way of using an old FW Apogee Duet as a DAC unless older iTunes versions would work.

The (resting) Oppo 205 might be worth trying - Mac Mini 2012 with newer macOS > Oppo HDMI DAC input > NAC 282 might be better than Nova, it might not.

This would really be useful if feasible.

Reading up on their API docs a bit and it does seem to only allow playback via their own mediaplayer which is bundled with the MusicKit API or offload it to Apple Music app. In all cases to allow authentication for an app to access a users account it needs the Apple Music app installed. Whilst I am no developer it does look like it’s specifically aimed at using it from other iOS or Android apps or webpages much like Spotifies one. It’s also been out for quite some time and we don’t see Apple Music anywhere so unless they change this side I doubt you will see it available via other platforms. I could be wrong though.

Early days I suppose, but I think most popular services are crippled by the music/movie companies being concerned about illegal copies if intermediary apps can process audio/video and potentially save it in a non-DRM format.

I really cannot imagine the majority of people having any interest in this - they want simple and if they can stream music/video, why would they want to spend more on local storage/backup hassles? Less popular music/movie/TV is probably more prone to copying I suspect especially if there are no official releases or availability on paid streaming platforms/YouTube. Watched Breaking Glass last night in poor quality on YouTube - if I was able to stream from an official source I’d have done so, not possible, but couldn’t be bothered to wait for delivery of a Ā£15-Ā£20 DVD/BluRay though may buy in the future.

Apparently Big Sur 11.4 is needed on Mac for lossless/hires streaming, not sure if this is true or not but scuppers things for those with older machines not officially updatable to Big Sur if true.

I am stuck on Catalina with my iMac and am yet to see any lossless/hi res options in Apple Music on that machine… so I suspect you are correct.

This is the page I was referring to earlier in the thread. If many people provide feedback, it may show there is a demand for what many people are requesting in this thread.

Yes, unsure why you couldn’t post the link.

I’ve posted feedback about several issues over the years, but it’s almost 100% a one way conversation with no response or feedback to the originator of an issue/suggestion.

I’m not sure why it wouldn’t allow me to post a direct link for some reason.

It does say on the page that appears after feedback has been submitted that they don’t normally respond directly to the person submitting feedback but that they do read the messages and take them in to consideration for future developments.

So worth a try I guess.

Yes, the links are well worth using, they do read the posts, of that I’m certain and occasionally they do contact people to explore issues further though that is uncommon.

I was hoping this wan’t going to be the case   :worried:

Couldn’t find there neither.

I am afraid that this means it’s time to buy a new one.

Thanks for the link. Just have my feature request. Weā€˜ll see if that helps :upside_down_face:

I think Clare’s comments are encouraging but naturally guarded - Amazon/Apple etc may well need to integrate with 3rd party devices more to remain competitive.

Naim also need to integrate the feeds as quickly as they can agree. The main thing that is stopping me planning for an ndx2 is the lack of my newly chosen stream supplier, AmazonHD, being on board.
Hopefully that will soon be integrated and I can look forward to meaningful discussions with my financial team (Mrs Bruss and the two dogs).
