AI chip demand has increased SSD prices over the last 6 months.
My 1TB SSD has more than doubled in price. I purchased in Dec 2025.

Prices are crazy just now. Thankfully I updated my PC last summer when I got 32GB DDR5 RAM for Ā£75 and a 2TB Western Digital M2 SSD for Ā£110. I doubt Iād get much change out of Ā£600 for that now.

Generally Apple release new iPhone each Autumn, usually in September.
This year apparently the plan was to announce the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices in September but to hold off the base iPhone 18 model until next year.

I have several Samsung external SSDs from the T5 and T7 ranges. The prices of the T7 ones are now considerably more than when I purchased them a few years ago.
Great if you might want to sell, but frustrating if you want to get additional ones.

Iāve been tempted to get a used iPhone at Cex who sell pre-owned video games and various tech hardware. I think they offer a decent warranty on used iPhones (5 years on some if not most). They have lots of stores across the UK.
I had a similar experience. I replace my own systems once a decade but always buy big. Last April I replaced what was in the case with 16 Core CPU and 96GB of DDR5 and added 2.5TIB split over nvme and SSD.
If I sold the bits today at second hand prices Iād make 400% profit. But of course Iād not be able to replace it for that.

Just bought an Apple TV , 64 GB at Curryās. Their prices havenāt caught up.

Apple TVs are great products, enjoy! Looks like you saved Ā£60 on that model.
Even if Apple refresh the device in coming months I honestly think that new features they may add will not appeal to those of us who simply want to play media/music.

indeed and compounded by the US/Iran war - although questionable exchanges in the last 24 hours or so, hopefully though that is coming to an end, and manufacturing energy prices resume to previous levels, so we can return to the more regular demand based increases from AI and increase in building legally sovereign server farms, especially here in Europe. (ie moves away from foreign owned hyperscalers, for certain compute and data sets).. though these are sometimes brought together under a generic āAIā badge when being generalised.

They are good and basic devices, though occasionally I get some sort of instability on the menu screens with my LG TV on the HDMI greatest bandwidth setting, but is always fine with video content and screen sharing. (minimum colour space compression)
We have had ours for a few years now, though we dont tend to bother with the games you can do with it - and my later generation version dispensed with the fibre TOSLINK output which is a shame .. but for video adapters for the TV they are good, small and effective.

Iāve probably had every major version released since 2007 (old larger silver units with 40GB and later 160GB hard drives - these had component video out, Toslink, RCA stereo out, ethernet and a USB A port supposedly for āservicingā). Used to take almost 24 hours to download a rental SD movie from them and quality was far worse than it is these days. How things have moved on from a 1 Mbps broadband service!
It was a shame to lose Toslink and analogue audio output and I think they really messed up naming their main amalgamated streaming interface āAppleTVā as it probably detracted from the device itself which could do more, but maybe Iām not their typical customer.
Bought some games on the newer versions when kids were younger but rarely do now.
Really wish Qobuz would port their app to AppleTV for audio playback even if there were compromises.

Try Airplay if you have an iPhone or iPad you may find it works better than expected.

Yes, itās all complicated , but my plan is (that if I move) I can get a decent 43inch TV and split my audio system in two.
With a serious headphone system and possibly an Atom to drive my speakers

Lots of potential ways to connect these things I suppose.
Airplay would probably work to a TV (if it had an Apple app), to the AppleTV and an Atom.
Youād presumably hook AppleTV to TV via HDMI but if you had a Uniti device you wouldnāt have to run analogue from TV to the Atom and could just Airplay audio to the Atom with video +/- sound to TV. HDMI ARC confuses me primarily as Iāve never found it wo work exactly as I want.
Is it just me who gets frustrated with digital volume controls?
Apple have almost always had a seemingly 4 bit digital volume range for audio Airplay from the physical remote so only 16 levels (say Airplay to my Nova) - itās far too steppy and an increase can be too loud but the lower setting is a bit too quiet so you have to adjust other things. Whatās fascinating is that there are clearly more levels as using Naim app or Nova remote I can happily adjust from 0 to 100 volume whereas AppleTV remote jumps in units of 16.
Same with our carās digital audio system - volume too steppy and often canāt quite get what we want as either a bit too quiet or too loud for comfort.
With the anticipation of hiRez Apple Music coming to tvOS27 I had the below delivered earlier this week.

A potentially good thing about chip price rises I suppose is that it might make people stick with existing devices for much longer.
Gone are the days of external storage costs regularly dropping as newer/larger capacities come out.
Not bought a USB connecetd physical hard drive for many years but really havenāt seem them become much cheaper, probably slightly higher in recent years (4TB and 5TB ones).
