Apple Wallet - Strange advert

Info for adding a travel card is here:https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT209494

Thanks Stokie, again that’s what’s odd, all those overseas travel cards are there to add but not this one which is like a promotional banner above my credit/bank cards when opening the app directly from the screen. If I’d been to a place where the card might be of use I’d perhaps understand especially if allowing location based ads/popups, but I’ve been abroad for many years.

Can you delete it? I’d run the latest iOS because for me the security update is more important than any supposed performance slowdown.

There’s an ‘x’ icon there so presumably so but if it’s a button I guess it could do anything not just close it!

If I just tap on it it opens a page describing the app.

I want to make an offline backup anyway so may as well do that then update to iOS 16, seems my iPhone won’t get iOS 17. iOS 16 will allow a lock screen widget for a new product I can’t use currently.

Try turning off notifications for Wallet. Settings>Notifications>Wallet. Then reboot.

That made it bigger!

Weird:

That’s a pain! You won’t still have Apple Support on you phone? But you could ask in the Forum? https://discussions.apple.com/welcome

Thanks - I searched the Wallet section of ASC yesterday but didn’t turn up anything.

I think I’ll try contacting Apple support directly.

Good luck!

Just had a call back, they couldn’t really say if this was normal or not, it’s hard to describe the issue over the phone, but they’ll call back when I’ve updated iOS.

Just out of interest which iPhone model and which iOS version?

(iPhone X/iOS 15.5 here until I clear some space to update).

iPhone 7 Plus and iOS 15.7.8.
I note that if I select transit card +, I’m presented with a choice of 30 Chinese Transit cards - great. I’ve never visited the Transit section before as I can apply express transit to a stored credit card. It’s not a very localised iOS release is it?

Thanks. It’s weird and others see the same in that section which I suspect is normal. Great for worldwide globetrotters but I’ve never been to Asia!

Just to confirm, are you seeing the ‘promoted app’ banner without going into the transit menu, simply with your bank cards below when you touch the Wallet app icon on the screen (not when launching to pay)?

I’ve left the transit section without a default payment card as the exploit I linked to above used a complex method to use that default card but only Visa I think.

Yes, the ad was present when I first entered Wallet as an app. I pressed X to dismiss it.
