That does make sense then, I just found them a little lacking in clarity at the top end, but it isn’t always easy to tell when not in your own house. Looking at the inflation calculator, the equivalent cost of SBL’s would be about £3400 now, so ATC’s a good price match
Yes. I suspect using a hifi inflation measure SBLs are probably at least £4,000.
But Credo were the model below SBLs weren’t they? I think I looked at them when I got my SBLs.
As a happy ATC owner, I can see why he would. I’ve owned SBLs and IBLs in the past and, in terms of speed, the ATCs that I have now, come within a knat’s chuff of them both.
The ATCs are also more even handed than I remember either of the Naim speakers being. By which I mean, whether FM, CD or vinyl, no format is favoured at the expense of the others.
Worth a deeper look (and listen) if you are seeking to change IMO.
Yes, the Credos back in 2000 were about £1,300, and the SBL’s about £2,300. At the time, the Credos were the match for my then NAC 102, and the SBL’s were used in NAC82’s which is where I am now.
I think I got my SBLs as ex-demo for about £1,700 so those prices make sense.
I had a 92 and 90 at the time. So definitely too much speaker. My system is a little more balanced now.
The Spendor D7.2’s are surprisingly good. I usually despise ported speakers. I just auditioned some against the SCM40’s as well. I pursued the D7.2’s as their size fit my room better and the ATC’s had too much overall bass output.
To make a long story short they have been ordered after a week long home demo.
