ATC SCM 11 vs SCM 19

I’ve now had an extended home demo of the ATC SCM 11’s and I adore their sound

Just before I order my own pair of 11’s I thought I should have a listen to the SCM 19’s so am picking up a demo pair from my dealer on Monday for a few days over Christmas

Anyone else heard both speakers? I’d be very interested on your thoughts

You are getting into mullet territory here. With the 19s you should be looking at far better source and amplification. Do you plan to go there?

It’s possible HH

I owned 19’s originally with a SN2 but it took a 250DR to really make them sing, I’d definitely stick with the 11’s you adore.

Yes I’ve owned both.. the 19 is a big stand mount and very very heavy.. more bass is the obvious trait but the SL driver does something magical with the midrange.. need a beefy amp tho. I used Atc sia2-150 with mine.

ATC sound runs through its range so if the 11’s sound great in your room and with your system stick there!

Later down the line a sub or maybe 2 ( I found rel subs to be excellent ) can be added and they really move the dial on performance and experience.

The 11’s are lovely speakers and on good stands are wonderful - enjoy

Well I’m picking up the 19’s tomorrow for a few days home demo

I just wanted to see how much better the SL driver might be over the CLD version in the 11’s

What I definitely know is I love the ATC sound

Worth a demo for sure and if your dealer is supportive have a listen to the active 19’s - a different direction but I personally prefer the active presentation.

I did find that ATC are sensitive to what they re fed, the better the source the better they perform and my experience is a balanced system is important.

Hope it works out but the 11’s may be the answer and if you want more consider a sub.

Beware! With the 19s I suspect you’ll soon be wondering if an amp upgrade would really make them sing, and that in turn would likely mean a better source. The extra expenditure in the longer run could well be a lot more than just the price difference between the speaker models.

I’m actually ok with that Roger. Just fascinated to hear if the 19’s are indeed better

not sure if they will sound better or possibly worse as the amp is king with ATC, but, I’d now be looking at SN3 / AETHOS / Platina levels of amplification if I were to feed ATC SCM19.
Or better still a PRE/POWER combo with 200W out min.
They are demanding of current…Perhaps ask for an amp borrow too ?

If new power amps are in play, I’d be looking at active versions of the 19s or, even better, the 20s. It’s not for nothing that ATC are such strong advocates of active operation. My understanding is that making ATC-type active versions of the 7s and 11s just isn’t practical but I think all the larger models can be had active.

The 19’s are in the house, gosh they are heavy

First impression is that they sound a bit smoother and ‘grown up’ (if that makes sense!) than the 11’s

thats about right.. more of everything but well controlled

Pics !

As an aside….

When I emailed ATC with a couple of questions they were fantastic replying and the guy I was in contact with said that the 19’s are ‘slightly’ easier to drive than the 11’s

Whatever I eventually choose I know it’s only going to be ATC’s

Some may know we’ve not been in our current house very long so decor is suspect and no cable management as yet… bit of a mess so please excuse!

A very rough pic with the 19’s boxes in the foreground

After all you’ve got to get your priorities right haven’t you? :winking_face_with_tongue:

I know, I know the speakers are too close together

I’m working on it

Looks great… thought on 19 versus 11 welcome…..
I’m tempted to chop in my PMCs for some 19s for my snug…nothing articulates like an ATC..
