I use my Atom with a Nait 50, preamp output into the the N50 and I’ve noticed that when they are both switched off from the front panel, in stand by, the Atom case remains warm, even when left overnight. I assume there are a few of you out there using in the same way. Have you noticed if the case remains warm?
I use mine in the same way. On standby now the volume knob is 30.8 while the casework is cooler at 29.7. Is your Atom in the sun? This probably explains why my cat likes to sit on the volume knob while the Atom is playing!

Do you have Server Mode enabled in the settings menu, and do you have a USB drive attached?

If it bothers you, then you might want to try turning off server mode. It’ll then effectively go into sleep mode when you switch to standby and hence remain cool/cold.

Thanks, but no not in the sun and I won’t let our cat know that the Atom gets warm

Thanks, no USB connected and server mode is switched off but I’ve toggled server mode on and off to see if that makes a difference.
Just trying to figure out if it should generate any heat while switched off on the front button. Server mode was off but I’ve toggled the switch in the settings menu to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the help

Server mode (or attaching a USB drive) will prevent the Atom from shutting down the main transformer when it goes into Network Standby mode so you would expect some power consumption. Otherwise only a very small switching power supply stays on, which should use no more than 2W of power.

Just trying to remember other reasons, the Atom would not switch to the standby power supply. (Which should make it feel cool. USB drive and server mode being the most common.)
IIRC, this can also happen with some settings for HDMI-ARC input.
Some people also switch off auto-standby, but you mention you manually switch it off from the front panel.
Possibly as a test: when you long-press the standby button, the Atom will (kind of) switch soft-off. Next press will wake it and it needs to “boot” (taking much longer to wake). Usually a bit unpractical, but with this you can test, how it would feel when in power-safe mode.
Oops completely forgot about the HDMI-ARC and Optical from the tv. Like you say perhaps it’s the HDMI. To be honest it’s not an issue for me but thought I’d ask the forum just to check. I will try the long press as you suggest. Many thanks for your help.

The optical should not be an issue. For HDMI you can have a look at the settings for the input.
IIRC, the option to switch on the Atom (or any of the Naim devices, they need to keep the HDMI connect up and “listen”) from the TV takes “too much power”, hence it keeps the main power supply active. And when it’s on “on any active input”, it’ll always hit.
(So, power draw vs. convenience, to switch on the Atom separately, e.g. via button, remote, or app.)

We’ve been here before on numerous threads for numerous products.
“Warm” is not a number. Define warm.
I haven’t measured the temp, don’t have an infrared thermometer but the N50 feels cool to the touch so at room temperature. The Atom is just slightly warm to the touch so it’s obviously generating enough heat to keep it a few degrees above room temp. To be honest I was just checikng if this was normal and it would appear that it is, so all is good. I guess I should have used the forum search facility… hindsight is a marvellous thing.
Turning on a TV should wake the Atom from network standby mode. A rogue HDMI installation on a TV might keep it awake if it’s incorrectly implemented on the TV, which is surprisingly common, but a correctly designed HDMI ARC output will not do that.
