Atom With Dali Optikon 6 mk 2

Hi there, today I bought the Atom paired with the Dali Opikon 6 mk 2. This was over a Camridge Audio Evo 150 paired with the Monitor Audio Silver 300 7g. I made this decision based on the fact that the bass of the Atom with the MA speaers was thin, and thought this was because that MA speakers need a minimim of 80 watts. I switched to the Dalis because they are 4ohm and need a minimum of 25 watts, meaning the Atom power should be enough.

My experience of the Atom + Dali was more bass, but at times too boomy, with some slightly quieter mids than I got with the MAs. I must admit though the MAs gave me a shrill feeling, but perhaps this was the demo room.

I havent actually got the setup yet. My listening room is 3 x 7 meters and I will be sat facing speakers kn the 3 meter dimension. What do you think about the pairing? Will the extra length of my room help with boomy bass?

If it’s possible, you should try the speakers at home before committing. There is nothing worse than boomy bass. Bass should be tight and fast, with no overhang, and it’s usually better to have too little bass than too much.

I never heard the items you are talking about, but do also have 2 rooms with audio kit that I need to face the speakers in the short dimension of the room.

This can be a real challenge for positioning the speakers. Even worse in my case I either have a couch or a wide tv stand in the middle. Not easy situation.

In the basement, the second setup, not often, but still there are songs that just don’t work. After that it all depends on music style and your level of tolerance. As second system and the low cost I invested, I’m very happy, but would not keep it that way if it was the first setup in the house.

I think HH have a very good recommendation if possible.

Edit: Hey, welcome to this forum by the way.

Positioning is going to matter, they look like a substantial speaker for the room and you may not have lots of choice regarding distance from the wall across a 3m width. Rear ports can need a bit of space to get the bass right. Ultimately I’d make sure you can either try at home or have a return option. be aware the Atom will change a bit over time, and so will brand new speakers but boomy bass is unlikely to improve if present from day one.

Hope they sound great!

Dalis are both a bit challenging to drive and the excellent Opticon range is rear ported so it seems like either positioning too close to a wall or corner, or perhaps too much speaker for the Atom to control.

Not every speaker is right for the room or amp. Well matched to both, the Opticons should sound amazing.

Does your dealer do noth Naim and Dali? If you got boom even in the dem room but it went away when adding a 250 (purely for troubleshooting purposes) you’d learn whether it was the amp or your room.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I have set them up and, with the right positioning, they sound amazing with the soundstage, imaging and controlled bass, and thats without having run them in yet. So, very happy as things should get even better. I havent cranked it up yet, but if I get any boom I can always plug the bass ports, I think that will help.

Heres my humble setup
