Audio hoarders unite

Ditto. And my profile only lists the bits I use :grimacing: There’s enough to build a few other systems out of bits I just have boxed away.

There was a theead about which bits of gear people regretted getting rid of. For me ot was everything so I stopped getting rid of it.

Same, I include lengthy fostering of gear with mates, better they enjoy it that it sit there unused but I still haven’t given it up. B&W 805N’s were on loan for 11 years. Although they were an exception as I sold them when I found out I could nearly get what I paid for them 20 odd years earlier.

Oops! I just couldn’t resist a bargain pair of Monitor Audio R300/MD today. I’m playing them now, on the dining table using a Technics CD and a Hong Xing Class ā€œDā€ amp (which are in the ā€œTrialsā€ box). Since they are very close to me they are playing at quite low power but they sound pretty good for under Ā£50.
Playing Bastille ā€œBad Bloodā€ which was aparently number 1 at some point.
I also have a pair of Acoustic Solutions speakers, an amp (forgotten which) and a CD player (possibly Goodmans?) on loan to a friend.

Further thoughts on the Monitor Audios:
I have been listening to them all this afternoon, firstly with some CDs (vocal and close miked instruments) through an Arcam CD & Amp. Then ā€œSounds of the 70sā€ from a Sansui network player (as a DAB) through an Arcam ARDac.
The imaging is superb. I can visually imagine the position of all of the instruments and voices. Perhaps lacking in deep bass but you would expect this from an infinite baffle in a (relatively) small box. All in all I am very happy with the sound and consider them a bargain.

@Tony I had my 32.5/Hi-Cap/110 serviced about 3 years ago so they could stand in for the 282/Hi-Cap x 2/135s when they went to Naim for a service. They were used for 6 weeks and have been mothballed since. But I did not have to spend 6 weeks without music in the living room.

Plus, if you have hoarded stuff, you need to know it works. Or at least was serviced X years ago. Most of my hoarded gear is in use; usually in other peoples ststems or my 2nd. Yes, i have a few pieces that are not being used right now. The nac 62, an olive Hi cap, a black hi cap DR, couple of pair of speakers.

Yeah, but how many R2Rs do you have?

A good question Mitch! I’m ashamed to say that I’m not entirely sure. It was a lot at one point, but I’ve sold off quite a number in the past few years. I think I’m back in single figures again. Possibly…

I’ve got a pair of black MkI SBLs collecting dust in my garage. I’d like to move them on but I can’t even give them away!

I got a brand new in box Nait 50 that I bought thinking I’d use it in a 4th system (!!!), which hasnā€˜t happened.

They are not worth that much second hand, so I’ll just keep it around should an opportunity to use it arise.

When I bought my SBL’s I was working on an assignment in Luxembourg. During lunch I checked the German Audiomarkt site and a nice pair of SBL’s was there. I contacted the seller and apparently I was the first who requested to come and listen. He sold them to me and I’m still happy with them.

It’s now winter period and since we don’t heat the gardenhouse they’re unused but once spring arrives they’ll be used again.

Probably one of my Revox machines. There’s a mint in box A77 MkII 4 Track that I bought from a retired diplomat. He could only have used it maybe once or twice. But I guess most prized would be a very early A77 (77A) 2 Track that has a very sweet and valve-like sound to it, very like its G36 predecessor.

I’ve done the opposite - recently sold 11 items (8 Naim pieces; a Quad FM4 and a matching A&R A60 plus T2 tuner) and I think I feel good about it. Miss the 42/110 tho’. Couldn’t part with the Meridian 104 tuner.

Oh yes, these Revox machines are superb. Used one a very very long time ago. Never owned one unfortunately.

I still regret letting go of my Thiel 1.6s. Should have fought much harder in that divorce.

I chucked a mint condition Akai tape deck in a skip. Inherited it. Didn’t realise what high end gem it was. Also got shot of a totally repairable JVC receiver from 1980 and Technics D2 turntable. Really beautiful gear.

I take the regret as a lesson to not repeat the same errors.

Conversely, I never give the Arcam or Linn stuff from the 90s I let go a second thought. The exception being my early DIN A60 but I found it (thinking it was long gone) in the wine cellar of a farmhouse in Belgium a couple years back. Took it home to Japan for some TLC.

Same, Nakamichi Cassette Deck 2, second prize ina hifi choice competition. Got to the point wasn’t using cassettes and it was literally mint.

Muppet.

A friend came across this combo and asked if I wanted them otherwise it was going to be binned. I took it home. Will either sell the separates or give them away. Can always take them to a charity shop or recycling centre. Would never bin them!
