Having responded to another thread, I realise I may be a hoarder of Naim kit. Not sure how or why it started.
Currently hoarding( i.e. not in main system)
NAC 72 * 3 (son and daughter use one, another in second system)
NAP 140 * 2 (with son and daughter)
Olive HC * 3 (as above)
Olive 250 in second system
N-DAC (in second system)
NAC 62 ( in reserve)
And it goes without saying, its all boxed, complete, recently serviced ,mint etc.
I don’t hoard Naim as my means are more modest (only one system) but I have nearly sufficient general Hi-Fi.
I have about 20 pairs of speakers and a similar number of amps, cd players etc.
It’s a good job there is no “Loot” on this forum or I would be up to here in Naim too!
Keep my “in-service” boxes stored in the loft. Store items not “in-service,” in the convenient cupboard in the spare room. I don’t want this stuff in a damp or hot loft.
I find it strange that people service their gear and then put them away for heaven knows how long. I’ll try that and put my car in the garage for a couple of years next time I have it serviced!
Well yes but I am embarrassed about the lack of miles on mine. Serviced every 12 months or 3000 miles. Sadly the annual service now comes before the mileage service.
Currently my unserviced and un DRed CDX2/282/hi250-2 is set up with the allaes in the flat we use occasionally where it’s never powered up long enough to give of its best and my Rega DACr/Cursa/Maia along with some Thiel CS1.6s are with my sister in law with the proviso that the Thiels come back to me if she decides she no longer wants them, the rest she’s free to sell.
I’ve only possessed two Naim products, both sold on to fund upgrading.
As for other kit, over the decades I’ve mostly done the same. A few things not: a
A pair of Musical Fidelity P170 power amps: trivial resale value, kept in case one or both sons would like.
Then there are two Bryston amps (2 channel and 5 channel) from triamping before getting my current speakers and amp. Kept on case one day I get around to continuing with a speaker design/build project, because active XO & triamping is far easier and more flexible than designing a good passive XO.
A modified Behringer AXO, kept for above reason.
I’m not sure that qualifies me as a hoarder? Otherwise I’ve an interesting history with old speakers: My first decent speakers, 50 years ago, were IMF TLS150ii. Some 15 years later upon my upgrading to IMF RSPMs, those originals went to someone else in my wider family. 25 years later when I upgraded to the PMC EB1i, the RSPMs went to same family member while the TLS50s came back into my house for one of my sons who still has them, though no longer in my house. Since I upgraded further to PMC MB2 the EB1is have been floating as I’m loath to get rid of them and my other son has yet to sort out a system, though it might involve some reshuffling within family, otherwise I may eventually move them on.
Where do I keep them?
Oh, scattered around the house. Two pairs in the lounge, 8 pairs in the “library” (3rd bedroom) a pair in the garage, a pair in the dining room and some upstairs with the other “I’ll listen to that soon” kit.
My go-to pair are some original Spendor BC1s. Totally involving and effortless. Never fatiguing with all types of music. I spent 3 hours today listening to them.
Going by your criteria (not in use in main system):
CB NAC 62 (in use, but not in main system)
CB HiCap (in use, but not in main system)
CB NAP 140 (in use, but not in main system)
CB NAC 42.5 (in reserve)
CB HiCap (in reserve)
iSupply (in reserve)
UnitiQute 2 (in reserve)
UnitiQute 2 (was in reserve though I have put it up for sale)
DIN Headline 2 (I’m currently using an RCA Headline 2)
HiCap DR (in use, but not in main system)
NAIT 50 (in use, but not in main system)
Looks like we’re nose and nose. At least until the listed UQ2 goes.
If you had asked 3 weeks ago, I had another HiCap DR in reserve. However, I sold it.
