Steinway/Lyngdorf - Part 1
The next stations was the Danish firm. On display where Model C speakers and Lyngdorf electronics, the electronics on the right where not used in the demo. The presenter explained that the requirement of Steinway to step into the equation had been that it would need to be able to play a Steinway in a neutral / real sound. The loudspeakers were open and supported by two subwoofers (no bass from what you can see). An essential part of the whole setup is the room correction by the system (time and amplitude).
Bo Stief - deep spatialize bass, real slide guitar sound.., a nice piece to demo
Carolin No - very natural sound, not so dress to impress like with the Burmeister setup.

I don’t really have any upgrade plans but I do like to keep up to date on what is out there so thanks for setting this thread up @BertBird
Steinway/Lyngdorf
Peggy Lee - very natural sound, asking myself if it holds on when the volume goes up
Christophe Beck - hearing again another version, nice
Bob Dylan - nice start of the song, but Dylan not so my favorite
Soulacybin - seems to be Glitch music, never hear of that form. But it’s a great test track for a system. The system deals very well.
Friend n’Fellow - while it’s very nice I am asking myself the question if I would need more carachter or if this would be a great system as such (answer is not yet defined by me, would need to do more comparison)

Steinway/Lyngdorf - Part 3
Lang Lang - we of course insisted on a piano record to also hear according to the claims. And while this is a poor version of the music, the piano sound was real in the room.
So overall this system was a step better as the Burmeister System, as it missed the coloring and had better timing (due to the correction in the electronics)….., but again not sure if I would buy it….

Audiphysik/MBL - Part 1
I have to say as a pre warning, anything I mention about this setup you have to take with a grain of salt as I was sitting much to close and to the left side…., so hearing impression have been much poorer as they normally should be.
The guy from audiophysik showed us the Cardenas with is the top model. And he explained that they don’t use anymore aluminum but a different material which is much thinner and much quicker reacting then aluminum for the tweeters. I didn’t catch what material, but interested ones can I guess read it on the website.
Simone Sommerland - was just a fun thing to get everybodies attention that the demo started.
Jimi Hendrix - especially for this type of music sitting too close
Markus Phillipe - interesting version of the famous song. Good bass from my position less than Burmeister, but more natural. Missing however a bit of earthiness…

Friend ‘n Fellow - good but less pronounced
Club of Five - missing earthiness
Phil Collins - kind of plastic drum sound, perhaps also there on the original
Hans Zimmer - sounds good
The Wellerman - capable, but less soundstage from my position

Audiophysik/MBL - Part 3
Eva Cassidy - more natural and much less colored than at Burmeister, so better.
Hedegaard - capable to deal with it…
It was as mentioned a bit a pity of my listening position as the speakers and the electronics are normally on a very good level, when positioned well…

Purist - Part 1
We then had the option to go to another room which was not part of the “real” event, but very interesting indeed. It was focussed on the Purist Music Server and DAC …in this case split across two boxes - while it is also possible to have them both in one box. The music server can hold up to 128 TB of data…, which opened my ears with my filled two 10TB Melco’s. The Magic of the solution is all in the software. The software corrects the amplitude to a complete neutral effect, and also corrects the timing of the drivers so all music arrives at the same time at your ear. He even argued that this also extended the bass below the 30HZ of the manufacturer down to 16HZ …., if that’s true I don’t know but the musical examples showed us amazing result. Everything was powered with my not favorite chord electronics….
Terje Isungset - amazing, very interesting testrack
Fink - due to the corrections the voice is much more dominant than I am used to hear at shows. He constantly changes to with and without correction. When correction is off it sounds more recessed and compressed as before.
Hedegaard - sounded much more brutal than before with any of the systems heard before

Thank you, Bert - very interesting! Keep going!

Whouah, 128 T0 capacity for the Purist server is awesome. I feel it will be your future server.
Could well be the case in the future. But also interested in the option to replace the ND555….

Paul Simon - amazing how well it sounds, more presence of the voice and even the audience
Geoffrey Oryma - sounds good
Eva Cassidy - best version of this evening from an emotional perspective
Belafonte - was apparently the first stereo recording, as if you are there in the concert hall
Yello - sounds good very atmospheric

Hello Bert,
It seems that you like this system, despite having a Chord amplifier and B&W 800 series speakers, neither of which are well liked on the Naim Forum.
Was it really that good?
Best regards, BF
Purist - Part 4
Film and the BB’s - didn’t know this one
Jacintha - emotional with great soundstage, speakers fall away
Jessye Norman - I asked for the Four Last song (apologies for not sticking in the cover art). I know that recording very well. The Purist was more precise then my own system, but the timbre of my own system is preferable (most probably the chord electronics which I don’t like)
Montserrat Caballe - dynamics great

Kurt - voice is very present
Then I got a song I couldn’t schazam. Send in the clown piano and voice only minimalistic
Nils Frahm - this big piano gives a very interesting sound
Keith Jarrett - feeling it’s a bit thinner as what I normally hear

Hi thanks for the question which also will form the end of this report. I would like to be very precise about the answer - so people are not fooled by the way I reported.
Yes I am as well on the front that normally I don’t like the used speakers and electronics and that didn’t change this evening. So I would never get the setup like that. But the effects of what the music server and its software do are significant. I am not sure if the music server as such would be able to compete with a Melco, while it could as it’s well designed and build. In the base one could consider it just as a replacement of known music servers. As advantage it woukd bring a couple of unique design decision. And the one very interesting thing for me is the limitless space (can not imagine that I ever would run out as I already have 30.500 albums at a bit over 20TB and the capacity can be extended in 2TB units up to 128TB, at a price of course). However in my eyes the real interesting point is what it does with regards to the correction, this is market leading as compared as well with the competitors who also do something similar (like Steinway/Lyngdorf). And the funny thing is that you can do it in different setups - using the DAC which you can as well integrate into the solution, or only use the correction function but use another DAC…. This would require of course much more exploration and comparison.
I could imagine that I would go extreme (after house demo and assuming I would generate funds in time) to replace the two 10TB Melco’s, and the ND555 and the two PS555….., other option would be to use the ND555 as the DAC (assuming it would be better sounding, why I assume the statement DAC might sound better as the older ND555)…. Obviously also an option could be to only use it as Music servers.
Bottom line I was very impressed on what the purist brings to the table, while I did also not 100% like the timbre generated by the electronics. I hope it’s clear as I am not a native speaker.

Wait at least for the next firmware. Someone said it should arrive in not a long time.
Thank you Bert for such a super and helpful reply.
There is no way that I could have written such a considered response in German!
Best regards, BF
