Hi all - I am creating a new thread for being able to report on music shows and audio events. As people go every now and then to this events and want to report on the experience, it’s easy to have one thread to not have to create multiple threads for multiple events. In the coming days I will report on a very interesting visit I had at a local dealer. In a couple of weeks I intend to report on the Leipzig Hifi Event. And more to follow…
What was so interesting of this event was the Purist Statement Musikserver and DAC. Through the amplitude and time corrections which is provides on top of being very good devices it left me speechless. I will write much more about and also about three top setups which I also heard.
As usual it will include pictures, my impressions, and a complete list of things I heard (sometimes inspiring music). I will as always need your help to keep on posting as without reply I can’t keep on posting. Consecutive posts on the same thread by one person are limited to 7 or 8 posts.
That’s a good idea. There are also smaller hi-fi shows in Switzerland from time to time that don’t warrant a separate thread. For example, the Finest Audio Show is taking place in Zurich on 1–2 November. If I find the time, I’ll go along and report back here.
Good idea Bert. I attended the Winchester HiFi event last evening which showcased Naim 552 vs Statement S1 preamps. Big thanks to Andy for arranging and hosting this fine and interesting demonstration.
Sadly, I took only a few pictures and those were of the Solstice Turntable which sounded excellent**. I recall plenty of negative responses to the Solstice aesthetic upon release, mostly from diehard LP12 owners, but once you accept the elevated platter I think it’s mighty swellegant!
S1 clearly a step up. Better timed, better organised, the music appears to have more time to unfold in a tidy manner that makes the 552 appear relatively a little on edge, over dramatic and coloured (which I know some listeners might even prefer - at least initially).
S1 is a cleaner lens. Having said that, 552 was very far from embarrassed. It’s a gorgeous machine, and again I’d caveat the speakers used. Better models I’m sure would show the differences more clearly still.
Hi BB, do you have a write out or come across any YG room? If yes , what is your opinion on them? I attended the Singapore Asian HiFI show a day ago and I came across the Carmel 3 . And a few other YG speakers . And to me it sound so good .
Women - at a hifi show is nice to see… After all, females love music just as much as guys in my experience, so their absence at the UK shows seems a shame…
Agreed Jonathan , in Singapore , more ladies are coming into the hi fi world , together with the husband so both can share thoughts together . A very lovely pic to see. My wife too, are every into hifi .
Have heard quite often speakers from this brand. In my most recent show review I also described something about a combined set with sub reference speaker and sub reference Boulder electronics. In general I find them decent, but never so good that I am impressed. But please read my earlier Munich and Stuttgart report and you will some words on it.
The setup offered was the speaker BX100 which will be delivered to customers first in the beginning of 2026, while showed earlier on audio shows - concept even in 2024. Pre-amp 249, 247 Vinyl not used in demo, 259 amps.
Carolin No - bass seems to embrace me as it’s coming from left and right, very nice soundstage (wide)
Hedegaard - while fully in control, it sounds a bit off as is proven later in that night.
Conclusion on Burmeister. As I have seen over the last years the Burmeister sound in total has shifted from over clinical to more warm. But I belief in this setup and room conditions the system only played to a part of its potential. What concerned a bit was this dress to impress sound which was also shifted a bit too the warm side. After the initial satisfaction you get of a couple of the Hifi tick marks like soundstage and details etc…, you start to sink in and get a bit out of place by the lack of ultimate realism. I belief the source on the Burmeister should also renewed to reflect the new capabilities of the amplification and speakers.
Please respond so that I can continue later today with the rest of the evening, which was much more interesting.
