Ok that could be, something I would like to confirm before considering it. With the Stella I could reach an adequate volume by the way…
Thanks for sharing these tracks, very interesting. I had to turn my subs off!, probably tells me I don’t have them quite tuned in!
I have both. The Stellias definitely seem louder - they work outside where as you found the Utopias are really only good in a quiet room.
I mostly find I listen to jazz and classical on headphones rather than louder/heavier stuff. The Utopias offer a feeling of space thats quite special with Jazz.
SVS - Part 1
Ultra Evolution Speakers and Hegel Electronics. They started with the small speakers and later in switched to the bigger speakers…
Daft Punk - the volume is too low it doesn’t engage me
Trinix - Bass is dry, strange sound their seems to be air on top of the voice, sounds almost like top end and low end are out of sync.
SVS - Part 2
Diane Krall - the system doesn’t emotionally touch me
King Willonius - should normally speaking draw you in, but it doesn’t do it for me
Then they switched to the bigger speakers…
Hans Zimmer - they still demo at a too low volume, but this is a clear step up in capability
SVS - Part 3
On the bigger speakers…
Diane Krall - while better sounding not so exciting as it should be…
Geoff Castellucci - bass voice is nice, but they are keeping it down by not using the right volume, or perhaps they are also afraid that at higher volume this will sound a bit overblown….
Clearly while better as the smaller one before, not my system of choice…
Thank you, Bert! Enjoying your impressions of the gear at the Leipzig show.
Just stellar, that’s it ![]()

During my small contribution to the Finest Hi-Fi Show in Zurich (see above), I realised how much work goes into the detailed reports on hi-fi shows. Many thanks, Bert, for your efforts. And Geoff Castellucci’s bass voice is truly artistically impressive – and the recordings are often truly audiophile quality – enjoy!
Audiovector/ Inakoustik - Part 1
The first setup I came accross was one with audiovector speakers, primare AV receiver, and Leica Beamer. They first played clips from Santana in Montreux - didn’t give me so much live feeling which I like in an AV setup. Later with a race movie with Brad Pitt it was much better and one got better into the movie…, while I heard a very impressive AV setup later in the day. The bigger speakers was the R5. The Beamer was quite interesting, it was a battery driven Beamer from Leica which according to the demo guy could run for 6 hours on battery power. What was interesting about it that they could move the Beamer freely around during the show and the Beamer again calibrates it self to the proper dimensions. I also have seen at another show a Leica Beamer which was almost married with the screen. So Leica seems to be quite interesting in this field.
Audiovector / Inakoustik - Part 2
I put the same name above it while I don’t know if these also have been Audiovector speakers. They shortly played Brothers in Arms of Dire Straits. Didn’t make any notes as there was no sitting place…
Bowers & Wilkins and Marantz
Quite a typical and frustrating experience here. Salespeople just talking with somebody, not demoing and the talking volume level intruding with the music…
Haevn - ok while difficult to access as the volume is too low and the voices are too strong
Wojtek - again too low volume
…after the started the Heavn song again I left…
Audio full.com
Lhasa - 1st setup, but can’t properly hear - they are holding a reception behind me - wine is floating…
Motörhead - on the redish setup - raw down to the bone, but at the same time limited….
Please reply - so I can keep posting…
Let’s go on Bird, and thanks for your efforts.
Yes, carry on, I’m enjoying it.
Audioquest / Arcam / JBL
Kaz Hawkins - first room of the day which brings across the emotions in a proper way, the soundstage is nice wide. Also a great song which is appropriate for a demo
Geoff Castelucci - nice full bass, you also have a nice portray of the lower bass, goes really low in this song. The song is great by the way to demo systems.
Unfortunately this demo was at the end and I would have to wait for the next demo, I moved on but in this room I would like to stay a bit longer and hear different songs… obviously the brave heart cables and room acoustics must have also helped…
Made me a bit nostalgic. My first serious audio system contained also JBL speakers, driven by Revox electronics (great as well). Still remember how live like John Bonham’s drum solo sounded on “concert volume”….
I will continue tomorrow with the Leipzig Show. I need to be quick as I have a next important event coming weekend. Above you find things I could unfortunately not cover in my report and will also not cover in the remainder as I didn’t visit these…
Great stuff, Bert. Keep going!
