Eva Cassidy - just moved to a better listening position to the third row. However still missing a bit of fullness. While the voice of Eva comes accross in gorgeous manner.
Yello - I asked for Avishai Cohen to see how the system works with real bass. But the guys only had a limited collection of music which had no bass…, they offered Yello so I said yes as it normally can also have bass - but then they came with this esoteric song of Yello which works quite well with the system, while misding the ultimate detail.
Justin Gray - again atmospheric music with side effects, interesting as demo but again thin in the bass departement
Then we got a choir with type of old chant from 1500 recorded for German radio - was not recognized by brother Shazam
Benedetti - for this type of music works quite good, while you still have to get acquainted to how bass is dealt with
Janine Jansen - works well with this system, I belief is more tuned to classical music with the boom of big orchestras…
many thanks bert - and for your reasons for attending shows - almost convinced me to give it a try - meanwhile i have your excellent reports to read/listen to
Thank you Bert, the idea of an audio show and my knee aren’t that compatible at the moment , but I really appreciate the time , energy and effort that you put into your reporting of these events
All living in Germany. This show I can definitely recommend to visit as they have decent rooms to present the systems. I am unfortunately unable to join myself.
I was quickly gone as the focus was on everything but demo the hifi on display. The guy had a discussion about the best dinning options in Düsseldorf, then thought it was a good idea to go on the picture with his assistent of the day…., and then he said finally shall we play something…., after the track of the Temptations I left when he again wanted to be photographed by somebody else. The system was anyhow not that memorable…..
The Temptations - woukd expect a bit more drive, voice could be more prominent….
As usual Audioreference had set up multiple systems on different side of a big room and you could rotate during the demo. I listened to the displayed system and a Perlisten based system.
Herbert Grönemeyer - the title of the song already indicates loud, but the demo was definitely too loud, unpleasant to listen to
Africa Cover - even after asking The Who the artist was I couldn’t find this specific cover song. If somebody can I would be great as it sounded great. The famous Toto song covered with guitar and female voice. The presenter called the band Acoustic Cover…
Aiwaska - big bass nice, sounding good and controlled. Not sure if they used the Velodyne subwoofer during the demo, but I guess so - as they focussed a bit on bass
Marcus Miller - still on the first setup, part 3 is on perlisten system. Impressive bass. They play it in a way to impress and don’t care so much about refinement, would be interested how more sensitive music would sound on this system.
Vahtang beatbox - interesting testsong, however a bit overpronounced as I missing a bit the balance, they want to show they can do loud…, but forget that there is also something like refinement
Einaudi - missing the refinement which would make it sound perfect
Billie Eilish - at first good, but again would like to hire more detail and refinement
I came a bit in before the workshop with Matthias Böde started about digital room correction. The speakers are running on a whopping 6.500 watts of amplification and in the demo have been sourced by a 10/15 years old CD player. The room was filled with comfortable seats, so it was no burden to sit and listen.
Jocelyn B. Smith - strange intro feels a bit strange as she is far away in the middle the soundstage by the way is great
This is the part where the workshop started. They first explained the background. They use the 6.500 watts to be fully in control of any room. In the current room they needed to raise for instance the highs by 8DB…., room was a typical meeting room setup, with it’s characteristics. They have to programming teams one here and one in South Africa. They have programmed the whole setup based on two hundred sensors to ensure as good as possible sound at your listening position. They use own DSP’s and own made software the control it. They also explained that they while they have the highs up by 8DB they at the same time always have it a bit reduced at the listening position otherwise we would perceive it given usual listening preferences as too shrill.
They also explained how the can incorporate the differences in different parts of the world. In the UK he argued people tend to have a smaller room and that means they need to watch the high tones. In the US rooms are usually bigger and the soundsignature of American sound is more bass heavy….
Maria Phil - we can hear significant differences between the sound with and without digital correction. In general I would say I don’t hear a typical digital edge because of the sound correction, normally with digital correction, it’s better but at the same time also kind of artificial. Without the correction the bass is overpresent and the highs are muted. With roomcorrectiin it sounds balanced.
Red Norva - putting the correction on gives the music more live/air and it sounds more balanced. Still my question is if you would like all this electronic adjustment long term…,
Obviously Matthias also mentioned that it would always be good to do the basics right and rely on passive room acoustics in addition before correcting the remainder electronically.
The guy from Ascendo also argued that even the open door wouldn’t be a problem with thee-ei system. He also gave the tip of getting the simple room correction for the 8 corners in your room from Amazon as this is a kind of no brainer. The speakers we heard where 55K and they have them up to 120K the pair - with of course further refined sound. You just need a source with volume adjustment, could of course also be connected to a preamp.
Beat Kaestli - sounds good
Natalie Merchant - good rounded sound
Deadmaus - I went a bit back in the room and was closer to the ideal position in the room. One word WOW. Sounding a bit edgy/crazy and amazing how solid the bass is. Great experience….
They had a strange plug for the electricity. The guy who was there was not capable to explain what is did etc. Just argued whenever used the system sounds more balanced. Not a good way to sell your stuff when you are responsible to demo…
Josefine - nice warm sound, bass is a bit blooming…, however much more emotional impact as the weak room before…
