Stuttgart - Lansche Audio - Part 2
Dennis Kolen - sounds ok, but is not my kind of music
Aage Kvalbein - sounds good rounded sound..
Stuttgart - Lansche Audio - Part 2
Dennis Kolen - sounds ok, but is not my kind of music
Aage Kvalbein - sounds good rounded sound..
Stuttgart - Progressive Audio - Part 1
Small speakers - fully active with 250 watt. 37HZ to 22KHZ…could be a nice setup for somebody living small with still a decent bass performance….the Hightower are actually in the center of the other driver, strange design in a way…
Oli Bot - nice track, bass quite impressive from such small speakers…
Stuttgart - Progressive Audio - Part 2
Adele - not bad but misding a bit on the emotional side the impact
Otis Taylor - ok, not overimpressive
Stuttgart - Progressive Audio - Part 3
Geoff Castelucci - great warm low sound, not ultimate detail and emotionality but far above the price level on offer
Avishai Cohen - a bit boomy now, misding ultimate timing and detail…, not so much foot tapping as it normally does…
Stuttgart - Defini
Anette Askvik - ok, but missing in multiple fronts - detail, high, low…bottom line poor audio quality
Dominique - not entertaining enough…
Stuttgart - Harsch
Malia - voice ok, mid and low end misding authority (demo on standmounts)
Fink - ok, but missing raw energy
What was very unprofessional that during the demo in the middle of a song they started to move one of the speakers. No respect for there product and showing bad preparation….
Stuttgart - Boulder - Part 1
They again like in Vienna present the 800 system, with the fitting YG speakers. Funny fact the guy doing the demo recognized me…., not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing. They game some background on the two companies - being both big in Asia and the US…, for big systems. The 800 series is now focussed more on the European marked. Mono amps class with great reserves to drive the powerhungry YG speakers (sensitivity 87DB).812 also in the system as DAC and preamp.
Stuttgart - Boulder - Part 2
Reinhard Mey - sounds in control and smooth
Ghostrider of Johnny Cash - rounded sound, VoicePlay a bit to the left and not centered
Camile - sounding good, perhaps a bit too decent
Dali Feyr - clean a bit too clean to my taste
Yookie - good music to show how good the amps are in control of things…
Stuttgart - Boulder - Part 3
Randy Crawford - again sounding rounded, but missing a bit character
Anastasia Kobekina - just too clean I am now really misding something like the real sound of a raw cello
We now got to an interesting section about longplay. Introduction of a firm friom Vienna, I made a photo of the name etc for the junkies. They create the special Lackshallplatten (lacquer I belief as translation) direct from original tapes. Presumed to be of better quality than Vinyl…., but of course also more vulnerable. They will soon release new stuff from the band Cream, Michael Jackson, McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane (crescent).
Sonny Rollins - sounds very much alive, a wow experience
Stuttgart - Boulder - Part 4
Nina Simone - a special siebdruck picture disc, not so my thing but sounding special
Alexandre Desplat - a short intermezzo on digital again, nice track to test your system. Low end, choir etc..goes down to 26HZ on the system…, mine goes deeper but ok…
Ella and Louis - again back to analogue, recorded in mono in one day, 500 euros…, yes seems to be worth the price
Stuttgart - Boulder - Part 5
Ella and Louis - a nice closure with the high quality longplay of an interesting day in Stuttgart
Please all let me know if this is appreciated to report about a smaller audio show. I put in quite a bit of effort and realize the traction of this thread seems to be considerably less then the Vienna one, while this one contains much more detail and information. So let me know if it is good for you or if I should limit it or even skip it.
Would be good to know before I go to Milan so I can either go just relaxing and the two audio events or put in more effort and be your eyes and ears.
I certainly appreciate it.
As @Rafael already posted before. Let us know if you want to meet in Milan in the coming weekend. We will plan to visit the two hifi shows in Milan over the weekend and would obviously be happy to meet other forumnites.
I am really enjoying this report as much as the Vienna one. Thank you, Bert, for the care you put into this.
I attended the Dubai High end show this weekend. I forgot to take enough photos, but here’s the few that I did!
This, one of the Raw Music rooms was a bit too HiFi for me, but quite impressive sounding. I’ve heard these YG speakers before and got a similar impression here that their treble is exemplary; fast, clear, fine timing and open which can help unravel complex rhythms like few others do. The Chord Electronics pre/power controlled them well and the Matrix Audio all in one digital front end seemed to be doing a very acceptable job prompting thoughts of whether I might one day be able to replace/simplify/update my 3 box ND555….
One of the best and most musical systems to my sensitivities was a very old school meets high end digital source set up by Dubai Audio. Klipsch LaScala, Jadis i70, DCS (Vivaldi I think?).
Gripping music on everything I played - Jazz, Sinatra, Clapton, Schwarzkopf Four last songs, Uchida Beethoven Sonata, Mahler 7. I was fortunate enough to have the room to myself for 30 minutes early on!
Frustratingly, I didn’t take any pictures of the wonderful system that AudioNote had set up using the latest hand built resistor DAC, the Izvor on the CD player and their top ‘E’ model speakers jammed in the front corners and firing more inwards than straight ahead. This system presented music on a smaller scale than most of the monsters in other rooms, but trounced them for musicality IMO. ![]()
Naim were represented, but this seemed a consistently poorly attended room. Speakers?, music choices?
Well reported, good pics. Shame I can’t join you.
Not surprising with all that Chord gear at play.
Not surprised the Naim room was not well attended. Everybody and their uncle has heard the Naim Focal combination if they go to shows. Same thing every show. And with no new products from Naim better to spend time elsewhere. I think Naim needs to be more aggressive at shows and offer their amps to other speaker companies to exhibit with. And a new product would help too.
@BertBird, I enjoy all your show reports, regardless of the size of the show/venue.
This show review was equally entertaining and you covered some interesting kit. It is clear you put in your usual effort.
You must of course be somewhat selective of the shows you visit. You can’t go to them all! I for one will relish your reports, whichever shows you cover.
As I have already commented, the music you identify being played during your visit is as important to me as the kit.
Many thanks from me, your efforts are appreciated.
