Audioquest hurricane high power cable

Anyone has tried or bought it?

I want to upgrade my power cable for my Ear 534 amp. I will have to buy blind.
I recently tried my Sarum T on it, but prefer my Kharma matrix at 1/3 of its price .

So I have to try a dealer that proposes try and return. But however around 2k for 1,5 m.

Not been any good or bad on the forum, and you would know. Cables are really the last icing on the cake to get that sound you like. Best wishes FR, a tough one

I do not have an Audioquest Hurricane, but I do have an Audioquest Tornado. It is plugged into my Audioquest Niagara 5000 power conditioner. I am happy with its performance, but it is a big, stiff, and heavy cable that can be difficult to manage.

Power cables are a funny thing. They all “sound” a bit different. Definitely try before you buy.

It would be effectively the last icing. But can be the definitive poison too. The antidote is mandatory: one click to return.

For now I am searching for the laboratory rats.

Is it full sounding and dynamic too?

Hi @frenchrooster

To ask the obvious questions. Why do you want to change power lead to your amp?
What do you hope to achieve from the change?

I had a 2nd hand Hurricane Source which I tried on my SN3 and my CD transport. In my system to my ears it was no better or worse than the old Chord power leads I was using.

Good luck in your search for the result you want.

I would like to have a bit more bass, more focused, and probably other uplifts.

Generally people going from stock power cord to powerline are satisfied. So I am in the same spirit.

I tried the much more costly Sarum t on my power amp. It gave a bit more clarity and details, but less snap and drums definition, along a bit less bass presence.

You don’t believe in power cables?

Another Golden Ears rat here. I had the Hurricane and Thunder (dealer said I should try the Hurricane too) with the Niagara 1200, which was a disappointment for me so I did return them all but to be fair I did not evaluate the mains cables separately. In any case, at this level these AQ cables are essentially impossible to manage unless you adjust your whole system positioning around to them including any corners and even minor direction twists. Nothing prepares you for their rigidity and nuisance.

.. If you feel brave (and strong) though, I guess worth trying from the wall, could ge good?

“Is it full sounding and dynamic too?”

That is a hard question to answer, but I will say yes. The Audioquest Tornado/Audioquest Niagara 5000 is definitely not holding back my system.

My dealer loaned me a Puritan Audio Ultimate Power Cord/Puritan Audio PSM156, and the Audioquest gear is the clear winner. The Audioquest is better, but it is also more expensive.

Yes, I belive in power cords. After trying different sorts I have settled on ZenSati Zorro power cords.
They give me what I want, to my ears, in my system, in my room.
Best wishes.

More I think to this more I feel there’s absolutely no certainty that I will enjoy this power cable. Maybe it will be whow! , maybe a bit better, maybe worse.

I think I should more borrow other top power cables from my dealer or other dealer and try. No risk.

For the rigidity, it would be not a problem, as my Furutech power block is at 1 m from the amp, straight, just after the Fraimlite.

Have you thought about upgrading the input power cable to your Furutech power block instead? Wouldn’t it be potentially more beneficial overall as it affects all connected devices? That’s a question I’ve been asking myself lately.

I have already an expensive Kharma power cable from the Furutech powerblock to the wall.
