The Selekt is a Streamer isn’t it ? I’m not too Au fait with Linn tbh .
There’s a lot of conjecture around the Niagara’s and similar products with good reason based on experience from times past but technology does move on . The only way really is to try one , it won’t do anything bad to a system . I did and ended up buying the model up blind and glad I did . I have read that many manufacturers have been using Niagara 5000 or 7000 for demo purposes at shows and I can hear why . The Niagara 3000 has added an awful lot to my system .
Below is a screenshot from Herb Reicherts review of the Niagara 1000 for Stereophile , one of the more reliable and informative mags IMO .
The Linn Selekt DSM has Class D power amp “modules” hence my response to the previous comments. I need something to refresh my current solution and keep coming back to the AQ Niagara as a viable option anyway.
I checked again and was confirmed that my Musical Fidelity 6s PRX power amp has its own in built equivalent of a conditioner. I did find my streamer sounded more dynamic once plugged into the high current socket on the Niagara 1000.
Has anyone compared the Niagara 1000 and 1200 to the Wireworld Matrix 2? Any thoughts? I’m currently using a Wireworld Matrix 2 (UK plugs) but am toying with the idea of getting a Niagara 1000 or 1200 with US plugs.
No matter if Class D or also Hybrid amplification designs like a Devialet (which also has an integrated streamer too)- they all will greatly benefit from the high current slot in the Niagara.
Just pure sources, NAS, TV, wifi etc you put in the other slots.
As mentioned before the Niagara 1200 with the NRG-Z3 is the perfect entry / price-value combination.
Anyone try a 1200 and not find it worth it? I have a Olive 250/82 and was going to upgrade my Wiremold (US strip) to a Oyaide MTB-6 but now find myself considering the Niagara 1200. The thing about the Oyaide is, it’s well made and there nothing to fail inside. The Niagara has plenty of things that look like they have a “life span”.
Audioquest with its Niagara line is currently the most advanced in overall tech/approach. But try on your own - there is a return possibility to retailer as well as when bought online too.
What power cord did you use to connect it to the wall socket out of interest?
I started doing some reading on the various AQ power cord offerings, it seems to take full advantage of it’s grounding tech you need to spend a decent amount on one of their more premium cords to see the full benefits.
Tbh I had to buy 3 new 2 metre cables to accommodate the Niagara 3000 so I can’t compare the Monsoon to others , I went as high up the AQ range as budget allowed and I got a good deal . Very happy though !
Ok . My dealer told me in reference to the original Niagara 1000 that 7/10 customers liked it and the others couldnt hear much difference which suggests original mains quality being the factor . He said those trying the 5000 had a much more unanimous view .
