Av Options now making interconnects for Naim

Hi James, I’d be interested to know which other cables you tried.

Hi Dave - Hope all is good with you. Standard Naim XLRs, Chord Shawline (previous gen), SignatureX TA, Mark Grant Canare cables. I’ve been down the road with Chord Music, pre the 350s (fantastic cables, just too bloody stiff) so didn’t go there again.

If I hadn’t gone with the AV Options cables then Superlumina XLR cables would have been next on the list.

Did you try the Linn silver XLR or RCA interconnects? I bought power and speaker cables from AV Options quite a while ago, but I do not think much about them.

Surprisingly, the LFD Spirolink coaxial interconnect cables sound clearly better than the Linn silver XLR IME, but apparently noone here seems to know anything about them.

I used to use the Linn silvers, decent cables albeit these were the RCA versions.

I’ve heard of LFD amps, but didn’t know they made cables.

Thanks! Neotech makes great cable. Some of their cable geometries are a bit strange though.

The odd thing about the LFD Spirolink interconnect is that it is coaxial.

Sorry, James, I was about to respond to your (much) earlier reply…and then grandkids arrived… and then more. They’re still here but I’m just grabbing a moment.

Shame that you found the Musics unwieldy, I’ve been using them for a long while and suppose I’ve just gotten used to them. It does make them easier to dress and they sound fabulous but I’m intrigued with the cryogenic ones you’re using. At some stage I may look at replacing my KDSM (old one) with a new one and, if I did, I’d consider the 350 route as you’re doing, probably going the Exakt route, if the funds are available. In the meantime, I’m still enjoying the lowly Katalyst model, which has recently received a Utopik power supply and is sounding terrific, particularly as I was encouraged to become more adept with SO and have really got a lot more from it.

Me neither, absolutely hated the Linn Silvers. I know others love them but they really hold everything back, imo.

No worries Dave - I will respond with a longer reply when I get a mo :slightly_smiling_face:

I have just replaced a Witch Hat 1.5m Din5 - Din5 cable with an AVO Signal cable with same terminations in standard length of 1.23m. This cable connects my CDX2.2 and NAC 72.

I did this for two reasons: 1) to get closer to full loom through the system (a new one for my recently purchased ND5 XS2 will be here in a few weeks), and 2) the longer WH cable was really too heavy on the NAC side, what with the Olive’s shallower DIN female terminals.

The AVO cable is very supple, well made, easy to dress, and doesn’t put unnecessary tension on the preamp plug. Additionally, gone is the slightly syrupy sound of the WH. Back is the speed and energy of the Lavender, but with enhancements pretty much across the board. These enhancements are not shout in your face obvious. They’re subtle. The most obvious in your face improvement is the overall naturalness, or “being there live”, sense to the music. There is no stridency, something that can occur from time to time with the Lavender. Clarity, sound staging, dynamics, and musical flow are all minutely improved upon compared to the Lavender. So are the bass notes. There is a more natural fullness to the bass, whereas with the Lavender it’s more of a, “not everything is getting through” type of observation.

So in effect, it’s really like a super Lavender.

Is there an alternative to AV Options that make equivalent cables as good or better? It turns out they don’t ship to Australia and I need XLR to XLR into a Nap300 DR. Essentially their “Naim New Classic preamp to NAP135s, NAP 300, or NAP 500” cable.

I know Naim make their own but I want something of higher quality.

I have AV Options cables and I also have Siltech. The latter are really great cables. Maybe they serve your territory?

I need a specific type of cable as the XLR inputs on the 300Dr are unique. Siltech don’t appear to do this type of cable but AV Options do. It’s frustrating as on their website they say they ship cables internationally but at check out all they offer is USA, Canada and the UK.

Siltech might do the cable you need if you have a dealer that can work with them. They build a lot of them to order anyway. They did for my DIN/XLR phono cables.

Have you tried Chord Cables?

Cheers but I’d rather avoid the route of having to get a custom cable made up. I already did that just to get My Manley pre to work with the 300DR. Having to do it again to work with the Esoteric pre I’m contemplating is too much of a hassle.

I had a look and while they offer a number of Naim specific cables they don’t do one for New Classic XLR (standard) to 300Dr XLR (non-standard) like AV Options do.

Have you tried messaging them to ask about shipping. Often it’ll come down to the website shipping calculator, and in most cases when I’ve asked websites will come up with a price for me (to NZ)

I considered the AV Options din interconnect. But, it is just too pricey. Once the US price is converted into canadian dollars, shipping and customs fees, it would be significantly more expensive than just buying a Hiline from my dealer.
The good old lavender lives on in my system

I have emailed them, yeah. Let’s see if they respond.
