From what you say it sounds like the cost to me after discount but including UK import VAT, any customs duty and minimal logistics fees will remain cUS$1,700 (@ 1.3 so c£1,300) good to know if this was roughly what you paid in due course.
Indeed – I just looked back at my CC statements for that period and i’m within £30 of your figures. As well as the VAT, there was the FedEX processing charge (!) and the currency charge on my CC.
Money aside, they are great cables. Very nicely made (the money goes into the high standard of construction rather than blingy connectors and daft packaging) and very good communication on the status of the order. Build took about a month from order to delivery.
Assuming they’re the Deep-Cryo treated cables they introduced a couple of years ago, I think that’s a good price.
I bought the Deep-Cryo Hi-Line equivalent when it came out, and would have been happy if it was of broadly similar audio quality - I was very fed up with the fragility of the Hi-Line - but it was substantially better, probably the best cable upgrade I’ve made (and I say that as one who’s generally a bit leery of fancy high-ticket cables).
Aside from that, AVO are top-notch people, and will look after you well.
Thank you for the feedback @Corry and @james_n - you tipped me over the edge!
Just placed an order for a stereo pair of AVO SIGNAL XLR-XLR (balanced) and also some deep-cryo’d NACA5 with F style speaker connections for my ProAc D20Rs (always wanted this but my local dealer in UK couldn’t do it but AVO look well up to it).
Really pleased with this and as others have said @Chrisw is a real pleasure to deal with - thanks again Chris.
Looking forward to receiving in four weeks time or so.
I should talk to Chris about cryo on my 7m pair of NACA5. I use Siltech deltron-style bananas on both amp and speaker ends, although I have considered changing the speaker end connections to spades.
@ChrisW did these for me.. Luckily AVOptions sent me a demo pair to listen to while they changed the termination (part of my initial hesitation was being w/out music). The only difference was the demo pair was Cryo’d only, no F-mount. I was really surprised at how much better they sounded. After 2 mins I couldn’t wait to have my cables returned Cryo’d and with the F-mount termination.
Yeah that’s the picture. Chris says the F type is the optimal connection type for our speakers so this with Deep-Cryo’d NACA5 and new AVO XLR I hope results in a significant uplift. Need to be patient .
I received this afternoon the DIN signal cable for the CDS!
Without any burn in, I recognise the art and way playing of the little grey, perhaps already with more body.
This time, I’ll do the burn in to hear what more comes
Because last time with the WHA, from the beginning something was left, not the same equilibrium as the standard cable between 52 and 135, not the same lively and punchy way to play music. So I came quickly back to the standard cable.
This time, exceptionally, I don’t feel the need to go back after only a few hours listening. In fact, the opposite is true. That means a good feeling to achieve the burn in test and more to keep it hanging on the CDS.
Interestingly, I have also gotten cryo-d z-foil resisters from Chris West. I use them for the ‘personality’ (i.e. loading) cards for my Boulder phono-stage. I figured it was a low cost tweak to try, and was surprised by how they lowered the noise floor, over using decent quality off-the-shelf resisters.
I have five sets of these cards and have configured two with z-foils. I just ordered four more z-foils to configure two more sets of cards. I’ll leave the fifth set blank in case I ever need them for a MM cartridge, or if I want to load something at 1000R.
But only 35/40 hours at this moment (more weight in the sound, more naturalness with the classic olive rhythm)…
It‘s a long time until reaching the 100 hours!
It‘s the first time I give a cable his full chance to completely opened up.
Feelings are good!
But as it happens sometimes during running in period especially at the beginning (stabilisation period?), there’re good passages and some less good moments.
Globally the sound presentation is typically the little grey and olive one
That’s the very best point for instant.
If that wouldn’t be the case, I already stopped the experience…
I never considered getting my NACA5 cryo’d. Wonder what it costs for my 7m pair, and if it’s worth doing. I plan to get six of their Tibia12 cryo power cables for my subs.
