Barry John R.I.P

As am Englishman, I must admit that this guy was probably the greatest player to ever grace a Rugby field.

Another sad loss from a golden generation and from times long gone, so soon after JPR. Just reading about his early retirement at the age of 27 after struggling with the superstar tag. Such a talent and another reminder of mortality.

Saw him when I was aged 7. Obviously far too young to appreciate what he was but goodness… what he was.

A legend, at least in our house and Wales (and also in NZ). In addition to the notices posted un the 6 nations thread this memory of the king popped into my feed.

Although I’m a football fan I used to enjoy watching Barry John play.
To me, rugby in those days appeared more free flowing than the modern game and Barry in tandem with Gareth Edwards were the pinnacle of entertaining rugby.
He was an amazing athlete.
