Bath Resurfacing?

Has anyone had a cast iron bath resurfaced insitu and was it successful? I know there are companies out there that specialise in this but I’m not sure what to expect. It’s almost 30 years old now and has become quite discoloured, replacing is a lot of work in terms of tiling etc.

Re-enamelled? Or something else?

I haven’t any experience, but if it were me I’d want to see examples of their work, and ideally also talk to people they’ve done it for. Proper enamel is effectively glass melted onto the surface of the metal - surely not possible in situ, when instead you’d get a (hopefully very hard wearing) paint job. From when I briefly considered retaining an enamel bath, a good few years sgo, I seem to recall that it was possible to have it taken away and re-enamelled.

Many years ago we had an old cast iron enamelled bath it was in a council house and when it got chipped or discoloured they sent a painter round with white enamel paint and gave it a going over.
Do not use for at least a week.

I did this to our bath a couple of years ago. Used a two pack re-enamelling paint. Looked really good when applied with a roller.

I’m just an amateur and if I did it again I would spend more time sanding before application because there is a small patch that has bubbled up. Luckily this is underneath the rubber bathmat so you can’t see it. Also, use the recommended roller. I used a foam one and if you run your fingers over the dried surface you can feel what feels like grit but which is actually tiny dried bubbles.

Overall, cosmetically it looked superb and continues to do so. Cost was about £50. If you want it perfect, get a professional and references.

Had bath & toilet done in my first house. Still looked good when I moved out probably 20 years later.

We have had it done, converting a baby blue tub to white. We were asked to be out of the house for the day, they taped the doors closed, and a guy in a full bunny suit with respirator did the work. It smelled a bit like things you wouldn’t want to inhale for a couple of days, but it looks great years later.
