Be Careful!

@Richard.Dane not a link or an advert but I have seen this before and whilst it could of course be okay, I’d hate for anyone to get got. I’m aware of a scam where someone buys this. The seller disappears. The buyer asks for a refund and somewhat to their surprise, gets it immediately along with an apology and an explanation that they are having issues with eBay. They then get a WhatsApp with a legitimate looking link asking if they still want it at this price. Looks like an eBay site and of course there is a degree of trust as the refund came straight back.

May not be the case here at all of course but just wanted to make fellow enthusiasts aware that some things are indeed too good to be true.

“upgraded” ???

I’ll allow it as a possible warning to members here.

Plenty of red flags here; No feedback I see and minimal description, mostly from AI. I’d want a lot more information here and worth searching on the images, to see whether they have been taken from elsewhere.

As ever, when buying high value kit, if the price looks too good to be true then it invariably is.

If it were me, I’d give it a very wide berth.

(This is my understanding): Under the eBay rules as they stand at present if a purchaser requests a refund it is granted immediately by eBay and the seller must pay for the goods to be returned to him/her. The position would appear to be to ensure that sellers provide a completely accurate description and supply goods which exactly meet that description.

I sold a piece of quality hifi (not Naim) and know the above through experience. In my opinion the goods were exactly as advertised but that was not the buyer’s view (or, perhaps, he changed his mind, or just wanted to try the item). The default is that if a buyer wants a refund it is granted immediately by eBay, not by the seller.

So in light of this one can feel fairly confident about purchasing costly items via eBay. Of course one must stick precisely to the rules and not get into any private arrangements as, I think, are being described in the post. You’re on your own, with no eBay protection, of you do that.

Yes. In this case the subtlety is that the “seller” says they will use another account and the link appears to take you to eBay with all the associated protections. Of course these could all be legit, I’m sure I’m teaching granny to suck eggs here but as always Caveat emptor!

Only safe way is to collect in person.

Definitely steer clear then. Proper eBay listings only.

Definitely agreed … but also best to pay through the eBay system. Then you get the protection. If the seller wants cash to avoid paying eBay fees, walk away. You don’t want do deal with people like that.

It may well be located in Bakewell UK today & offered for £3,500, but the very same photo was located in Zurich (GBP 6,200) in February. See trovas.ch for details …

I don’t buy anything off Ebay with an AI description. If the seller can’t be arsed neither can I.

Yes, best to have a conversation with the seller. You’ll quickly discover a music lover / audiophile with similar interests as one self.

Years ago while perusing naim offers on eBay, i focused in on a listing that was using a photo of mine that i took of my nac72.
Going by the listing blurb, it oddly included “a mains cable”, but no original packaging, i concluded the item was probably a Nait 1 but he simply copied and pasted a photo of what he thought was the same unit.

Anyway, i messaged the seller to say his item maybe a Nait 1 (not a 72) and in the brief discussion it became apparent it was indeed a Nait.
The listing disappeared shortly after, but what makes me wonder is how people come into possession of something expensive like naim gear, …and not have a single clue what exactly the item is (?)

Maybe he simply found it sitting on a shelf in someones home they just broke into…

I’m not sure they do! I don’t think it generally exists in their possession.

My cynicism automatically reaches for a nefarious answer to that question, but there are people out there who randomly inherit such kit, have only a vague idea of what it is and put a cack-handed listing on eBay to try and get rid of it.
