Built To Spill - Cortez The Killer (@20 Mins double the length of the Neil Young original)

The Church - Faith Healer
- Hiroshima Mon Amour
- Silver Machine
Above all from A Box of Birds + many other excellent covers
Soft Cell - I Feel Love

Mary Fahl - Dark Side of The Moon (full album)

The Flaming Lips - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (Stunning but very different)

Have just listened to The Sound of Silence by both S & G and Distrubed back to back

Tin hat on here I prefer the Disturbed version.

They’re both great but, the “Disturbed” version is just so, so powerful and just builds and builds. I also love the way his voice varies from delicate and touching to raw Rock ‘n’ Roll.

I realise it’s been mentioned before, but the cover version better than the original which always springs to mind is obviously Hendrix’s version of Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower.

Others I would suggest:
Natalie Merchant’s live version of Space Oddity
Christine Collister’s version of Rickie Lee Jones’s Last Chance Texaco
Joe Cocker’s version of the Beatles’ With a Little Help From My Friends
Led Zeppelin’s version of Memphis Minnie’s When the Levee Breaks

Hello everyone, I’m Stuart, technical marketing manager at naim. Just to wade in (first post and all that), I’m a fan of seeking out cover versions - mostly rock/metal covers. Some work really well (Disturbed as has been mentioned a few times). Others like PVRIS’ version of Chandelier (which could have been really good but in reality barely very different from the original).

A few of mine (admittedly easy picks, apologies):

James Blake - Limit to your love
Sinead O Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U
Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal
Florence + The Machine - You’ve got the love

Natalie Merchant - After the gold rush (check the Live in New York album)
Natalie Merchant - Space Oddity (check the Live in New York album)

Interesting and slightly scary cover by Marissa Nadler and Stephen Brodsky. I miss the gorilla though.
