You can either write correctly or incorrectly.
That’s entirely up to you.
Just don’t mistake one for the other.

We’ll all be speaking Russian before that🤣
That looks great, but do you know who had it and what’s your next step? Plinth? Arm? Cartridge? You may have your hands full for a while.
Loricraft are well known for updating these lovely old Garrard units (I think that Richard Dane has one). Will they refurbish one for individual customers, or do they only deal in fully refurbished units?
Too bad the m80 is abit unreliable, the later m80 service manual has said to underbias them. And also the corrosive glue that kills them, otherwise quite futuristic looking
I hope that you get it working, however long it takes!
The Loricraft that I knew was essentially a two-man operation (Terry and Nigel) run from a Wiltshire pig farm. Now it’s part of SME it’s all changed and I’m not sure they do refurbishment any more, except for the complete 301s that they sell.
All I have now of the original is the Loricraft plinth. The 401 itself was totally rebuilt by Peak Hifi, including repainting the chassis to a far higher standard than when new and replating of the underside levers etc… It’s essentially as close to a brand new early model 401 as you could get.
Here it is:
Not a big problem
Antique, age gold ? Perhaps more appropriate than vintage. Not?
Lovely looking deck and clearly a very high quality finish, although I’d prefer some colour other than the green. Did you have a choice of colour there, Richard?
Sorry, I like the green. Lovely look and not run of the mill.
Sorry Graham : )
The green was my choice, although originally I had the old BMC Almond green in mind, and then Terry sent me pics and I thought “yes, it’s a bit different and I like it” so gave it the nod.
Who did the 501 and why it costs so much Richard?
The 501 was a Loricraft project. The idea was to make an updated “cost no object” 301/401 with various improvements made such as a more rigid chassis, finer tolerances, sophisticated power supply etc. It was listening to a 501 that led me to purchase the original 401. Since then I’ve had a few, culminating in this one that I still have.
We all make our own choices, and that’s absolutely fine. That particular shade of green just doesn’t do it for me. But it’s a fabulous looking deck.
I wonder if Richard is secretly hiding an early Solstice somewhere?
PS I’ve never heard (at least that I remember) of a 501. Could some kind soul post a photo of how that looks, please?
Hadn’t realised that Fortnum & Mason sell turntables !
It’s certainly vintage.
In the french dictionary: “ Antique and vintage are two terms that refer to the age of an item. An antique must be at least 100 years old while a vintage item must be at least 20 years old“
It’s why I think your turntable on your picture is more antique than vintage.
