Probably a daft question but how do you connect two power amps to B&W? Is it just a case of plugging the second power amp to the supercap and running two sets of parallel speaker cables to the B&Ws? I have a spare nap 250 and want to give it a try before deciding if I should sell it. Also ca you switch on and off the second amp with music playing for A/B testing?
As long as your B&W speakers have 4 binding posts for bi-wiring/amping what you describe is correct. If the speakers only have 2 binding posts then you cannot bi-amp. It is probably worth having a look at any instructions or documentation that came with your speakers.
You must remove any bridging wires from the speakers first otherwise the power amps will be damaged. Switch all amps off first before you do anything too. Take care and don’t rush it as getting it wrong with anything powered up providing power down the cables can end very badly and expensively indeed.
To do any comparison you cannot just switch off the 2nd amp. You will need to reinstate the bridging wires/cables and disconnect the 2nd amp from the speakers etc. I would just listen to your system as is then modify and see if you hear any difference and positive change.
Usually it is suggested source first, so if you have XPS and a spare 250, trade in for an CD555PS.
That said, many of the forum are uk centric, where doing such deals is maybe easier.
Lots of threads about bi-amping on the forum, search is as always your friend.
Turntable is my main source so I’m not looking to upgrade my NDX2 any time soon.
