I didn’t think £40 was bad for a 6 Blu-ray box set remastered, new special effects, new documentaries and interviews. Especially when you consider 40 mins of music on vinyl costs £30…

This thread reminds me how entertaining were some serial movies when I was child. I was completely absorbed. Invaders, planet of the Apes, the fourth dimension, the wild wild west, the 6 million dollars man, the Avengers…

Visually the studio bound stuff shot on video looks much the same as the DVD sets to me. The outdoor location shots though (shot on 16mm) certainly look considerably better. The new special effects for the space sequences are light years better than the original footage and the Liberator looks genuinely impressive now…

The other huge improvement is to the sound which sounds absolutely amazing compared to the original DVD’s. Far clearer dialogue, a full surround mix, effective use of the sub channel and just much more open sounding.

All in all to me at least it’s a significant improvement and despite owning the entire series on DVD as a fan I simply have to buy all the Blu-ray versions as they arrive.

It’s also worth noting that the two all new documentaries are fabulous and give a real insight into the making of the series, the personalities of the cast and the issues faced in production.

If you’re a fan it’s a mandatory purchase imho.

Nice to hear. I always resisted purchasing on DVD (and maybe VHS before?), one to consider in coming months when I have a bit more time to watch.
