Blakes 7 - an appreciation - and finally a blu-ray restoration

There is to me some striking resemblances between Servalan and the recent anti heroine Sophia Falcone in The Penguin series.

Well, I agree about hating Latin homework. But, chemistry and quadratic equations were an inspiration for me leading onto calculus, complex numbers and a maths degree

However, back on topic.

I was 23 when it aired. I much preferred Jenna to Soolin. Paul Darrow was amazing. In his later years he did voice overs for Jack FM.

Sorry, UFO was much better than Space 1999. There is loads of stuff about UFO on YouTube including how a second series morphed into Space 1999.

Anyway, I must go now as I need to iron my anorak.

Space 1999 had a rather odd/cold dynamic, but I still enjoyed it. I was too young to appreciate U.F.O. when it aired but got the Blu Ray which is absolutely sumptuous visually. (Was on Britbox at some stage so probably on ITV X now).

Peri! I liked Peri.

Nicola Bryant was in the Michael Winner movie ‘Parting Shots’ which also ‘starred’ just about every other member of Equity living in the UK at the time…

I suspect this will only be known by 70’s tea time kids in the UK…Was quite cool and could be a little bit leftfield, even though somewhat Children’s Film Foundation at times.

That was the way of things:
BBC had Swap Shop, ITV had Tiswas
BBC had Blue Peter, ITV had Magpie.
BBC had Rentaghost, ITV had The Tomorrow People.

Must be funny to watch. Who is Zouzou ? The cat, dog, frog ? I don’t see any chicken.

The proper scary ones:

I’m not sure this would be U-rated if broadcast today. All those trigger warnings around Zelda :grinning:

Memorable for the late Windsor Davies doing one of the voices of the cubes IIRC.

This just reminded me that I used to have a rather cool toy model of the Space 1999 Eagle Transporter. Lost it somewhere in time…

How about Farscape - Virginia Hey in particular.

That looks like an immense 5 channel speaker and separate mono amp set up in the background with the Statement DNM preamp at the front.

No Virginia, but hey…

I’ve just shown this boxset to my wife, adding that I hope someone’s bought me this for Christmas.

She said, Expect the unexpected.

Yes indeed, remember this. After ‘Ask the Family’ on Monday nights in 1978-9 I think. I was in the Upper Sixth. Remember Avon and Jenna, and I think we didn’t see Blake himself for ages but can’t remember why. Watched it with my late father who also enjoyed the humour of Avon. Happy times.

A colourised version of War Games is being released on 23 December, BBC4 and iPlayer.

It’s Patrick Troughton’s final story, and arguably his best. I have recently rewatched the 10 part original version, all 245 minutes. The colourised version has been cut to 90 minutes. The pace of 1960s stories was a lot slower than nowadays.
