They happen. Fortunately very rare in most parts of Britain (unlike some countries), but indeed potentially something could trip the mains supply up at any time.
I bought a UPS for my main NAS to ensure it would close down in an orderly way and not corrupt the disk array.
I had one yesterday during very heavy rainfall. I’m afraid its my own garden electricity. I’ve switched off the outdoor electricity. A quick check gave me one mains outlet being ‘open’.
