Could have been Jimmy Hughes… He was fond of the odd (literally) tweak. Once he wrote that turning your speakers to face the wall and listening thus would improve the sound. And that sticking little “horns” made from plastic cups with blue (or maybe black) tac around round your tweeters focused the treble!!
I confess to wedging toilet rolls between the wall and my ARC 101 speakers to good effect.
