Anyone going for it?! I purchased Rastaman Vibration when it came out a couple of years ago. It sounds really incredible compared to the one I inherited from my Dad’s original collection. At some point though I really have to pause. My spending on vinyl can get out of control real fast if all I look to purchase is releases like these!
Yes
You going for all of them?
Depends on the timescale I already have a mofi Exodus from the 90’s which is excellent so maybe not that but I would like all the rest.
I like Bob Marley but I shan’t be buying any UHQR versions. I have yet to hear one that makes them worth the money. At around £200 UK pricing give or take I would rather take that money down to Grey & Pink in Chester and buy me a small stack of used records to enjoy.
It’s personal choice of course but as I understand it some are not ‘full’ UHQR are on 180gm clarity vinyl as opposed to 200gm for instance so I imagine will be cheaper and also the only experience I had with UHQR was KOB 33rpm which cost me £116 inc postage and was actually the best version I’ve heard.
The question of cost is subjective people spend £1000 on a cable when perfectly good cables are available for one tenth the cost.
Exactly
As they say music lovers buy hifi to listen to their music and audiophiles buy music to listen to their hifi!
What are people’s views on the top 3 Marley albums?
Gary
Couldn’t agree with you more. I have fallen into both camps during my listening days for sure!
My top 3 are Rastaman Vibration, Uprising, and Kaya. I do have the AP Rastaman Vibration that was released a couple years ago. It’s really good for sure!
Natty Dread, Catch a Fire and Burning.
Exodus, Survival, Uprising
The two stand outs for me are Kaya and Exodus.
Peter
I wonder why Survival and Confrontation are missing it seems odd they are not doing a whole Island set? I actually really like Survival and also play Confrontation from time to time.
It does seem weird.
I won’t be purchasing them all but will likely grab one or two. Currently have the 45rpm UHQR Miles Davis KOB & White Stripes Elephant, both are outstanding.
Will any of you Reel to Reel owners stump up the £450 asked for the tapes?
I already have the Exodus UHQR but could not resist the 45 rpm, so I have pre-ordered Exodus and Rastaman Vibration. I thought that would be me for a while ordering more records, and god dam it Rhino Records have started taking pre-orders for the 35th anniversary of Tracy Chapman’s first album. Apparently cut from an analog master.

Oh man, haven’t heard the news of the Tracy Chapman album. That one will be fabulous! I’ve resisted the Bob Marley order. So far anyway!
Where do you guys buy these UHQR from?
Gary
Ps Tracy Chapman original sounds great.
