Brand New Naim Nait XS 3 Loud Humming - Please Help

I will certainly give that a go mate. The guy at Naim did say it had to go on a RCA input though, and he was quite specific about that so not sure why he didnt tell me to just use the ground post instead. I must admit its a bit of a dodgy make-do isnt it. I wish Naim would just include an “already made” plug and wire in the box incase this happens. Wouldnt cost them anything to do!

Just get a single RCA lead and only connect the negative to the Earth only on a 13a plug, job done.

DG…

Can’t say I’d be impressed with this. :-1:

Remarkable. If I had purchased a brand new Naim amplifier from a dealer and it didn’t work properly, I would have taken it straight back and would have left with one of two things:

  1. A replacement unit
  2. A full refund
Perhaps you should have asked the dealer to deliver and install the unit so that you could be certain that it was working to your satisfaction.

Hum occurs in all sorts of combinations, not just with Naim. Sub here had a hum, until I rearranged the wiring.

There are a huge variety of different kit, combos and configurations that owners utilise, so Naim can’t be expected to meet individual requirements. It is the job of the supplying dealer - that has always been the case.
You bought new, so resolving the issue you have been experiencing, should have involved them in the first instance, rather than keyboard comments on a thread!
Always used independent dealers, who ime, always go the extra distance to ensure all is well and assist with any unusual issues.

Sry I’m too late, I could gave you the solution much earlier as I have the same configuration

I had exactly the same problem and solve it with the same solution. The ground wire is connected to the phono ground of the Pro-ject Phono Box S2, and it’s dead silent!

It seems to be a Pro-ject Phono Box problem…

In case i missed something Don’t plug your Project Phono into the Phone imput on the back of the unit. That’s the XS3’s Phono Stage. You should use the AUX input for the Project Phono

@Deadwaxrecords

I was very close to doing this to be fair. But then I thought if I had a replacement unit it probably would have done exactly the same thing as I still would needed to have grounded the whole set up still. Not great considering the cost of it all to be honest.

This seems to be such a common problem that it should be in the FAQ section.
Having the same problem with my new Supernait 3. Will try this fix tonight.
So what is it with Naim gear? I’ve had many pieces including valve amps without any issues. Is this a non-issue with an all Naim kit?
Thanks for posting this.

I think Sevenoaks are independent mate to be honest. Also they aren’t open an a Sunday so thought I would reach out and see if anyone could offer help as per yesterday’s thread starter. Anyway has it happened, Sevenoaks just told me to speak to Naim and it was sorted that way. Not too sure if I would use them again to be fair

Haha typical! Cheers anyway ! :joy:

A valuable Naim amplifier. And some valuable dealer research. Win-win.

It is a non- issue with an all Naim kit. The design intent is that signal ground is connected to safety earth in one place only. Traditionally, that was a Naim CD player; later boxes (eg the streamers) have a switch on the back to connect or not as required.

Yeara ago,I had a Supernat2,and had this hum problem when trying to use a Project phono box with its wall wart power supply.
I solved the issue with an earth wire between the two items.
This only happened with the Project box,and not other phono stages I had later.

It would be sensible if all Naim dealers asked what the end user plans to connect into the amp, then they could advise on this known issue before it becomes an issue…

Glad to hear it’s sorted!

Enjoy the music :+1:

To be factual, the firm you mention is a chain of some twenty shops.

An independent retailer, is one where there are one or two shops, the owner is present, involved with their customer(s), together with resolving issues from their extensive experience.
Any Naim dealer would be expected to deal with this type of issue, not to simply refer it to the factory!
