Bristol Hi-Fi Show 2024 - New Product Launch

How did the 2 systems compare?

Robert h ā€¦ Me too. Unless someone on the door ushering folk in and out. Missed a few rooms as I didnā€™t want to gate crash a private partyā€¦

Glad itā€™s not just me. Have ranted here and elsewhere about the many faux pas pf dealers at shows. They love to respond at length absolutely justifying the status quo and then complain when things look less rosy by the year.

Yes, I was there on Friday and this room was the best of the whole show.

Which Pearl speakers?

I felt as expected. The NC 300 system gradually improved as the extras were added and the ND555/S1/500 system showed much more refinement and stability as it should.

Cool! maybe theyā€™ll have punch

Yes, they had Pearl Sibelius a single drive speaker. Source was a Rega P8 and Pearl Cd player and a Pearl valve amp and it sounded great. It was just uncomplicated and easy to listen to with a good level of detail and with it being a small drive unit the room size/acoustics didnā€™t matter.

I think he only has one model. It was good to meet and chat to Harvey. Indeed a few other recognizable faces were there including Roy Gandy and Peter Conneau.

Same as on Friday. Jason commented that a number of folks who couldnā€™t stretch to the full Statement were using this S1/500 combo.

And Iā€™ve ordered the KTK CD!

Yes there are quite a few of us and itā€™s a hell of a combo by any standards.

I donā€™t know specifically about these Focals, but in general the bigger the speaker, the easier to drive.

Anyone I spoke to from Naim at Bristol seemed to describe the Nova PE as the party box, whack it on and pour a glass of your favourite tipple for you and your gyrating guests sort of setup.
They seemed a lot more interested to talk about the New Classic products at least was my impression.
I thought the Nova PE was ok, not something for me personally but it fits a need for a certain type of customer (deep pockets and lifestyle led).

I got to the show today at about 12:00, overall i enjoyed the show, but next time iā€™ll go on friday (as i usually do) or saturday, as late sunday afternoon many rooms seemed to be itching to start to dismantle and i felt a bit rushed.
I had a very nice chat with the CAD rep and their USB Control device looks interesting.
Rooms that stood out to me:-

Pearl Acoustics: quite impressive bass form these speakers and a really lovely reproduction of female vocals.
Audionote: very realistic sounding
Harbeth: the new line sounded good very well balanced but i prefered the M30xdā€™s. It felt like you could have listened to them for hours without any fatigue.
Supatrac Blackbird: very impressive sound but this was on the rega naia so hard to say what was responsible.

Not so good:-
Naim: I didnā€™t think much of the big naim system, i thought it was a bit sibilant but it is the first time iā€™ve really listened to top naim and focal speakers so iā€™m not sure which part was responsible.
Linn: iā€™ve heard the klimax dsm with the active 360ā€™s and i think that demo was way more impressive than the passive/bass active version.

Oh, one good thing was that you could buy the nait 50 for Ā£2000 a very good saving if you were interested in getting one.

Hardly earth shattering.

I mean nobody bought OC kit at anything like those RRPs

Were Naim running any of their NC demos using the XLR interconnect?

Not sure on that, my guess would be DIN but I never actually asked or checked whilst there!

Will your dealer let you demo the SL XLRs? If so Iā€™d be keen to hear your opinion about them.
