Broken Uniti

Can anyone tell me what streaming board is in this unit (s/n 284xxx) I don’t think it will be the 24/192 board as it’s running firmware version 1.1xxx something or other so don’t think it will work with the Focal/Naim at this version. Can anyone confirm this? Apparently I can’t upgrade it to 4.7 unless it has the 24/192 board. To add to it’s woes the screen is u/s so as it stands it’s a very poorly obsolete unit.

So cutting to the chase. Is it possible to get the upgraded board for it and will it be possible to upgrade the firmware by just replacing this without other changes? A working screen would be nice but again it might not be possible to get one anymore. There may be an issue with getting the correct screen to work with whatever board is in it too I believe so if that gets changed it’ll need a different screen from the oem screen currently fitted.

If worst comes to worst I could just leave it as is and use a third party app like mConnect but never used it so not sure regarding full functionality for uPNP and streaming services. Doubt it will run Qobuz anyway.

So is it worth having a go at getting it up and running or should it just be used as an expensive door stop?

All Naim streamers were designed to work with the Naim app (originally called N-Stream) so if yours works, give it an Ethernet connection, turn it on, and see if the app can see it.

On old firmware you will have limited functionality, possibly only UPnP streaming and use of the USB port.

Determining the streaming board version needs the front panel display. If you’re very lucky you might find that in a darkened room, pointing a smartphone camera at the display will show the screen text on the phone display. Then you could at least navigate the menu.

New screens can be purchased from a French ebay seller who is also able to give installation advice.

Failing all that, it will probably still work as an amplifier and maybe a DAC.

The streaming boards are no longer available. Naim may be able to tell you if yours had one when new, or as an upgrade, if you tell them the serial number.

Thanks. Yes, I’ve bought a screen off the French bloke (Mattieu) directly in the past. He seems to know which screens go with which serial number.
