BT/EE Internet & TV package query

I have had a BT internet & TV package for 10 years & have been/am very happy with it.

Netflix was added free of charge to the TV package about two years ago & worked fine. I had not used it since very early this year & when I tried to access it during the summer a message on screen advised that it was no longer available on the 10 year old BT TV box & to access it I required a new EE TV box.

When I renewed my package in the summer I was automatically sent a new EE box plus a new EE router.

I understand that the new router is simply my existing BT Smart Hub 2 in a new EE case. As my BT router is working properly I can see no reason at all to replace it. I therefore assume that there is no point in doing so?

The EE tv box has twice the recording capacity of my existing box plus a couple of other improvements that do not interest me much. However it does include Netflix once again, which I wouldn’t mind receiving once more. The big problem is that there is no way to transfer many hours of recorded TV (approx. 100) that I haven’t yet watched from the BT to the EE box.

My question is therefore, has anyone else here had this issue, changed to the EE box &, apart from loosing recorded material, had any problems with the new EE box?

I will keep the BT box so I suppose that I can always plug it back in should I really want to watch an old recorded program but, apart from Netflix, I can’t really see that the EE box offers me anything compelling.

I would be pleased to hear of others experiences.

I renewed my BT contract recently and they sent me EE gear I did not want they said it’s standard practice now to delete BT home contracts and move to EE.

They didn’t tell me about this as I was basically mis- sold a new contract against my wishes.

It took about three months to sort out but I’m still on BT

We have not had a recording box for years and stream everything. There’s no long contracts and we can stop any of the streaming services at any time.

Tip

If you don’t want to have to log everything back in when you get a new router just log into the new router from a pc with the admin details . then change the password on the new one to the existing one.
Saves hours logging phones tv,Hifi etc in again

I have also been a contented BT broadband customer for several years. I have seldom had any problems and when issues did arise they were resolved rapidly. They are probably not the cheapest but I don’t mind paying a bit extra for reliability and decent service.

When I renewed my contract about 6 months ago I was told that all the BT products and services are now ‘labelled’ as EE. So I got a new EE router, which works fine, but was also required to return the old BT router, which was also in full working order. EE sent the appropriate labels so the return was easy but I doubt the old one will ever be used again. I do hope some parts might be reused or recycled. Had I not returned the old router I was told more than once that I would be charged a fee (I can’t recall how much, possibly £60). Perhaps you should check if the same applies to your ‘old’ router.

I never had a TV box from BT/EE so know nothing about them. I have not recorded from the TV for many years so that has never been an issue for me.

I changed from the BT Smarthub to the EE one 8 months ago. There must be a difference in the internals somewhere, as all the problems I had with connectivity and my Muso’s disappeared overnight. They have been flawless ever since.

I have the EE tv box too (and a mini extra one in another room). Very easy to use and great picture, but no idea about moving over recordings I’m afraid.
