Cable burn in

Not everyone…

No, I have the Superlumina full loom. The speaker cables take forever to burn in, but when they get there, it’s delightful.

I for one believe that some audible change happens when cables are used for a period of time.

Apologies, but thats what it feels like

I think most of the people that were involved with the last thread know how it ends up if we get too carried away so are trying to keep it light hearted. It just goes round and round in circles and nothing gets solved as nobody has been able to measure what happens………. Yet.

@Mark84:

I’d say that as far as cables are concerned, what skeptics doubt more about are differences among cables, directionality and burn-in; I am not sure about any of these points but think that cables can sound different and do sound different from one another. I also think that listening habits, expectations, state of mind act powerfully on our perception. As for burn-in and directionality, I tend to be skeptical in this order.

@Biblobong:

Perhaps you are right and wrong at the same time - some swear that expensive cables are a waste of money because given proper electrical parameters (Inductance, Resistance & Capacitance, related to gauge and length) one cannot hear differences among speaker cables; but we all do. As for getting used to a given sound, it happens but I have always been aware that one gets much more easily used to good sound than to bad or modest one, and although memory of any experience is volatile, dissatisfaction can be rather sticky. I don’t think we really get used to cheaper sound, once we have experienced good one some urge to upgrade makes itself felt.
My opinion only.

…but it’s a question that does not really need a definitive answer…just enjoy the music, that’s what matters.

Does it mean you are more skeptical about burn-in than directionality or the opposite?

Based on my experience with them so far (10 days or so), that seems to be the case with the NACA5 too.

I am more skeptical about directionality.

I would phrase it as such: I’m in the 0/100 camp, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

And I think this exactly, was what went wrong in the previous thread. Despite your and others best efforts to have an objective discussion, people were entrenching themselves to the point of literally saying that no possible outcome would convince them to change their opinion.

I have wondered whether it would make sense to open a new thread for your test, explicitly asking to only get involved if you’re happy to be proven wrong, whether one way or another. And not argue your expected outcome / your current opinion too much. Hopefully that would escape moderation.

You weren’t there for long then, and you just proved my point.

Whatever

This is the issue I have come to dislike about SOME of the forum banter(not necessarily pointing a finger at you n-lot). Rafael was not trying to conduct an experiment to be proven wrong, he was merely taking suggestions on testing parameters given the equipment he had, and run a test, then provide data. Many seem so eager to disprove others findings or opinions.

@Richard.Dane please delete my profile, and any associated messages I have posted since the new forum was launched. Maybe some day I will come back, but for now, I will stay on course with my own findings and lean on my Naim sales person for help.

Sincerely,

Scott, I’ve messaged you.

In the meantime, the OP’s question was answered long ago and since then this thread hasn’t been heading anywhere in particular, except in the usual circles, it’s probably best to close it now.
